Trumpet artist Garrett Klein has performed across the United States and Asia as a soloist, chamber player, and orchestral musician. Garrett is currently on the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. As Assistant Professor of Trumpet, he leads the UNCG Trumpet Studio and directs the UNCG Trumpet Ensemble. Additionally, Garrett is a member of the Dallas Brass, an internationally-recognized touring brass ensemble that has mastered a wide range of musical styles.
Outside of touring with Dallas Brass, Garrett appears regularly as a soloist, guest orchestral musician, and clinician. Recent solo performances have been with the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, Gustavus Wind Orchestra, and the St. Olaf Norseman Band. He plays solo cornet with the North Carolina Brass Band and occasionally tours with the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass. As a guest musician, Garrett has performed with the Charlotte Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, The Phoenix Symphony, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra. Garrett has spent summers studying at the Aspen Music Festival and the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, CO. As an advocate of new music, Garrett has been invited to present fresh compositions at International Trumpet Guild Conferences in Columbus, OH and San Antonio, TX. Garrett has served on the faculties of St. Olaf College and Gustavus Adolphus College teaching trumpet, brass chamber music, and music theory.
Garrett’s graduate studies took place at Arizona State University, earning the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees, along with a Certificate in Music Theory Pedagogy. Prior to studying at ASU, he attended the prestigious Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music studying trumpet and conducting. His Bachelor of Music degree came from St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Garrett’s primary teachers have been Steven Hagen, Martin Hodel, and David Hickman. Garrett and his wife, Mara, enjoy traveling the world, spending time in the mountains, and playing with their dog, Scout.
