Ethnomusicology & Musicology

The Musicology/Ethnomusicology area at UNCG offer students rich, interdisciplinary opportunities to explore music through both historical and cultural lenses. Musicology emphasizes the study of musical styles, documents, and traditions across time, while Ethnomusicology focuses on music in its cultural context, engaging with global traditions and diverse performance practices. Together, these programs provide a strong academic foundation for understanding music as both art and social practice, with options for undergraduate study, graduate certificates, and dynamic ensemble experiences.
