Located in the Large Gallery

UNCG and Storyhound Theatre are teaming up to create an artistic happening – THE BODY PROJECT, a one-night explosion of art, poetry, storytelling, theatre, dance, music, and film inspired by the human body, to be held during First Friday this coming March. We are in the process of gathering poets, playwrights, choreographers, and composers, and we’d like to invite you join in as a collaborating visual artist.

This project will kick off with a gathering to draw a prompt – of one of the FOUR HUMOURS of the human body. Participating artists will have just about 3.5 months to investigate artistically in any way they choose, to create ambitious new work, which will be shown at Greensboro’s First Friday in March.

This is an opportunity to investigate the human body and how we live and exist. We’re using four humours as our lens – the basis of medicine and psychology beginning with the ancient Greeks, through Shakespeare’s time, and up until the advent of modern medical research, when it faded into obscurity. Each collaborator will draw one of the four HUMOURS for the project – black bile, yellow bile, phlegm, or blood. These correspond to the gallbladder, the spleen, the brain, and the liver, and also correspond to four distinct “temperaments” that were core to the nature of many characters through theatre and literature, especially with Shakespeare’s work.

Email [email protected] by Nov. 15th if you plan to attend the drawing and mixer. Please tell us your specialty/artistic focus, and confirm you are able to commit to the March 2nd event.
