A sideman for Donald Byrd and then Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock has himself
become an icon with his lucid compositions, genre-changing playing heard on the
Head Hunters and Mwandishi albums, and continual exploration of music. His
music will be realized by the Spartan Jazz Collective, a mentoring jazz septet
comprised of UNCG students and faculty, who will focus on his music from the 1960s.
