Andy Hudson is a clarinetist and professor at University of North Carolina Greensboro. His artist-in-residency at Greensboro Project Space, Sisyphus, November 3-6 draws from Greek mythology, and his performances use repetition and layering to explore the often mundane and arduous paths artists follow. In conversation with Sisyphus, As Mercer Does is a participatory gesture drawing event of Andy Hudson practicing before his performances. Culminating into an exhibition displayed the week of Hudson’s residency, As Mercer Does reflects the constant process of practice in multiple mediums. Drawing on themes of process, repetition, imperfection, and collective empathy, As Mercer Does: Reflexive Practice takes inspiration from the mimicking of experience as ritualistic practice in Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Laura Levin is a student, speculative fiction enthusiast, social engagement art practicer, and a believer in upholding ongoing process over perfection in product.
