Daysha Bullock

Hometown: Greenville, NC

Major/Concentration: BFA Art (New Media and Design)

5 Year Goals: I see myself continuing and thriving on my entrepreneurial journey, expanding my artistic skillsets/product while spreading my love of art, and being hands-on helping in various communities.

Hobbies: I like to listen to music, binge watch a series (or two:)), go to the gym, and create new products for my jewelry/merchandise business entitled, Knick-Knacks!

Fun Facts: I have something people call an extra finger on both hands and my all time favorite guilty pleasure snack are cosmic brownies.

Advice for First Year Students: Stay true to yourself! It is important throughout this journey because it will teach you valuable lessons. It will also help you to make the most of your experience here.

Favorite Quote: Purpose crosses disciplines. Purpose is an essential element of you. It is the reason you are on the planet at this particular time in history. -Chadwick Boseman

Yahira Robinson

Hometown: Greensboro, NC

Major/Concentration: Dance Studies and Elementary Education

5 Year Goals: In five years, I will be a college graduate. I hope to have explored more of my interest in music editing and film-making, but in relations to dance. I also plan to be teaching in an elementary school using my current research in Integrated Dance (the study of teaching subjects like math/science with movement/dance) by combining the two things I love teaching and dance!

Hobbies: My hobbies include making films/editing, dancing, creating logos/other art online, and music editing (putting songs over songs).

Fun Facts: I have 2 middle names, I use to play Alto and Tenor Saxophone along with Percussion in Band, and my favorite color is green.

Advice for First Year Students: Get involved with people/student groups inside and outside your major. For example, as a dance major, I have a media studies major friend who got me into editing, now I make films all the time. Other connections that I could make may include, collaborating with a CARS/Fashion major to assist in making a costume or working with some music majors to put on a live performance. I think getting to know people in and out of your major, allowing yourself to find other interests, and going through college learning about yourself is the best advice!

Ashley Lowry

Hometown: Gastonia, NC

Major/Concentration: Music Education

5 Year Goals: My goal in 5 years is first to have graduated from UNCG with a Bachelor’s Degree in music education. I see myself having my own apartment and have my first teaching job at a public school. Hopefully teaching music, either band or chorus. I also want to adopt a dog during that time, specifically a labradoodle or a great dane.

Hobbies: In my spare time I love to do yoga, it is something new I discovered at UNCG. I also like to explore Greensboro to become more familiar with the city.

Fun Facts: I have a puppy that looks like an ewok from star wars. I absolutely love ice cream, it is my favorite dessert. I was the number one player in the ladies golf division in my county. I am terrified of the movie E.T. My favorite week out of the year is Shark Week.

Advice for First Year Students: The biggest piece of advice I have for first year students is to not be afraid to try something you have never done before. Make your own path because this is your time to go after your goals and dreams. You have your future in your hands. My last major piece of advise is to please go to your classes, even if they are at 8:00 in the morning. That is one of the first and simplest ways to be successful in college, just to attend your classes.

Whitney Bennett

Hometown: Aberdeen, NC

Major/Concentration: BFA Drama (Theatre Education)

5 Year Goals: In five years, I hope to be a theatre teacher for high school students. I want to create a program that focuses on teaching theatre in a way that’s meanigful for everyone because I believe that it can make a mark in anyone’s life not matter who they are or how analytical/creative they are. I’m also working towards a math minor so that I can teach math as well, and so I hope that I will also be able to do that. Lastly, I’d love to begin applying for a grant and raising money to open a community theatre, but that’s the ultimate dream.

Hobbies: I love dancing, working out, drawing, and of course, watching shows and movies. Huge fan of New Girl because Jess is teacher and person goals.

Fun Facts: – I went to over 15 schools. I was a baby model for Macy’s. I played baby Aurora in Sleeping Beauty when I was only a few months old.

Advice for First Year Students: Don’t be afraid to steer away from the path. A lot of the majors have a recommended plan you can follow. However, these plans are meant to give you a nice starting point. When I first came to UNCG, I was scared to steer away from the path I began on which was a major in Technical Theatre, but when I got rid of that fear I was able to find a major I was much happier in. Even within my major, without the fear I have been able to take classes that fit me more individually even though they may not be what the handbook recommends.

Favorite Quote: Live now. Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again. – Captain Jean-Luc Picard

5 Year Goals: In five years, my goal is to finish college and start teaching theatre in an elementary school or high school. I really want to teach theatre to younger children but if I am not able to find an elementary school with a theatre program I want to open up a children’s theatre in my community.

Hobbies: During my spare time I love to listen to musicals and watch Disney movies! I also love watching YouTube. Some of my favorite YouTubers are Haley Pham, Katherine Steele and Morgan Adams.

Fun Facts: In my free time, I love to journal to relieve stress. I am a HUGE Disney fan! Some of my favorite movies are Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, and Lilo and Stitch

Advice for First Year Students: Go to events on campus, they can be a great experience for you and your new friends! or somewhere to meet new friends. Also try and budget your flex and eat at the cafe when you are running low.
