Faculty and Guest Artist String Quintet,

The concert will feature quintets for two cellos of music by Beethoven. A performances of these arrangements is a rare event, and in the case of one work on the program, all but unheard of. Both are arrangements done during Beethoven’s lifetime or shortly thereafter for the combination of two violins, viola and two cellos, no doubt done with the intent of bringing this music, originally scored for violin and piano (the famous “Kreutzer” Sonata) and cello and piano (the first of Beethoven’s works for this combination) to private homes where no piano was available.
