Curriculum Vitae

Bryan Colburn Ellis received his BFA in Design from UNCG in 2000 and went on to receive his MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2005. During his time at Cranbrook Bryan focused on drawing and sculpture. The development of mechanical aptitude and craftsmanship through the use of diverse materials are critical in his studio practice and role as an art educator. Along with teaching classes at UNCG such as Color Theory, Design I and II, and Design Methods and Crafts, Bryan is an adjunct professor at Wake Forest University. Teaching at two institutions offers him a varied course load and the chance to practice diverse methodologies in order to instruct on various practices. As an instructor Bryan encourages students to produce work that expose the practical and technical problems that artists face regardless of discipline. Ornamentation pulled from history, the computer graphic, enchanted drawings and the graffito scrawl offer an inception to the pictorial vocabulary Bryan utilizes in his studio practice. Bryan’s exhibition history includes the Daimler Chrysler Corporation, The Detroit Opera House, The Art Center; Mt. Clemens, MI and Wake Forest University.
