Jess Shell

Jess Shell is a somatic based choreographer, dancer, and teacher residing in Hillsborough, North Carolina. She holds a BA in Dance from Sarah Lawrence College, and an MFA in Dance from UNCG. Her research includes somatic based choreography, and more recently outer space and astrophysical theories in relation to the body. She is also interested in the intersection of somatics, ritual, and site-specific dance. Her work has been performed in North Carolina, New York, and Italy. She is the co-director of Tobacco Road Dance Productions with UNCG Alum Lindsay Winthrop. Jess currently teaches dance in the Upper School at Carolina Friends School in Durham. She is also a licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist and brings her extensive anatomical knowledge to her teaching and choreography methods. Jess loves the collaborative process and is always looking for ways to create with others.
