While a majority of Summer Music Campers live in the dormitories during camp, we do have a number of day campers from the Greensboro area every year. Out of 1,000 campers in a given week of camp, about 35 to 45 students in the Greensboro area attend as Day Campers. This page is designed to help day campers and their parents understand the procedures and times for dropping off and picking up day campers.

Sunday Night Registration for Day Campers

Day camper registration takes place later in the day than other camp registration, because you have less to do. Day campers should report to the lobby of the Elliott University Center at 6:00 p.m., park in the Walker Parking Deck, on the first evening (Sunday) of Camp. Campers should bring their instrument, stand and completed medical form.

Dropping off Day Campers During the Week

Day camp students should arrive at their classroom or rehearsal site no later than 8:30 a.m. Monday thru Friday, but should arrive at the Dining Hall by 7:45 a.m. if they would like to eat breakfast (which you’ve already paid for). You are welcome – and, in fact, encouraged – to drop your camper off at the building where their morning rehearsal or class is being held.

Picking up Day Campers Sunday thru Thursday

Parents should plan to pick up their day campers at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday thru Thursday evenings at the Weatherspoon Art Museum – directly across Spring Garden St from UNCG Auditorium (corner of Tate and Spring Garden Streets – DRIVING DIRECTIONS). A counselor assigned to your camper’s ensemble or piano class will escort your camper to the area behind UNCG Auditorium each night and wait there until your camper is picked up.

Picking up Day Campers on Friday

Day campers will have free time from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. At 2:30 p.m. on Friday only, band and orchestra campers can be picked up behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum (same as Sunday through Thursday). Piano Camp and Chorus students may be picked up in front of the School of Music in the U-Shaped drive. Your camper will need to change into concert dress and be back on campus by 6:00 p.m.

Carpooling and Riding with Someone Other than a Parent

We certainly understand that groups of students from the same neighborhood or school would like to ride to and from camp together each day as a matter of convenience. This is certainly allowed, but if your child is going to be part of a carpool during camp or someone besides a parent is going to pick up a day camper, you should notify the camp staff at the Sunday Evening Registration, and it would be best to submit this in writing. Once the camp staff knows, we can notify the escort counselors so that you camper goes home with the right person.

If there is an emergency during the week and your camper needs to be picked up by someone else, give us a call at 336-334-5299.
