An easy method for dyeing fabric or paper using plants, jars, and sunshine and rusty cans. Learn how to use backyard garden cuttings to make surface patterns on fabric in two different processes. Use your foraged flowers with two different shibori methods to explore color patterns from plant based materials. Materials will be provided, but you can also bring your own. These processes work best on bandana or scarf size fabric (cotton, wool or silk) and can also be used with small skeins of wool. 10+years and up is recommended for this class.
- Materials provided: pre-rusted cans, glass jars, pre-mordanted bandanas and scraps for color testing, plant materials for printing.
- Collected plant materials may include: foraged flowers, maple leaves, Japanese cedar leaves, oak leaves, eucalyptus and more. Color dye will include common garden flowers and onion skin.
