Figueroa (UNC–Chapel Hill) presents ethnographic research on how Arab American communities have navigated shifting racial politics since 9/11. Based on fieldwork in Chicago, Oakland/San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., he explores musicians who use experimental practices to confront surveillance, Islamophobia, and identity pressures, imagining new forms of belonging through sound.
