The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama emphasizes that theatre is a discipline involving three basic factors: talent, study, and practice. Only students who show evidence of talent and who work to perfect it through classroom study combined with practical application in the production program will be continued in the major.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting educates students who are literate in history, theory, and practice of theatre, and have particular training relevant to performing for the stage, film, and television. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design / Technology educates students who are literate in the history, theory, and practice of theatre, and have particular training in designing for the stage and stage technology.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Education educates students who are literate in the history, theory, and practice of theatre, and have particular training to become effective, qualified theatre arts teachers for grades K-12.

UNCG Theatre, Workshops, and the North Carolina Theatre for Young People provide the production opportunities for students in all degree programs so they can learn theatre art as well as practice before live audiences.

The Department of Theatre participates annually in the American College Theatre Festival and its own Performance Showcase in New York City for graduated B.F.A. actors.

The School of Theatre sponsors and Industry Showcase in New York City for graduating BFA actors.
