The University Brand Guide provides units and their external vendors with tools, tips, and guidance to maintain and strengthen UNCG’s brand: UNCG creates remarkable real-world impact, every day. Through consistent execution of both internal and external communications and marketing across the University, our individual voices become one unified message. The School of Music manages a digital display just inside the main entrance to the Music Building. To have a poster added to the display, email the file to Brad McMillan. Submissions will be reviewed for content and proper usage of any university emblems. Please allow at least 1 business day for posting, unless corrections or revisions after requested.

Files must be in .jpg or .png format and should be 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels tall. PDF files are not supported.

School of Music faculty and staff can submit information for their directory profiles using the form linked below. These bios are critical for our recruitment efforts, and as a College we need some uniformity and standard categories from which prospective students and their parents/guardians can easily find information.

Headshot Guidelines

Headshots should by sized to 750 px x 750 px. The submission portal will reject anything other than these dimensions! Photos in the profiles should be as consistent as possible. They should also meet the same standards as photos for the Spartan Card.

  • Forward facing
  • Whole face/head
  • Head and shoulders only
  • No head coverings (except for religious observance)
  • Light background
  • Color photos only
  • In focus
  • Centered
  • Good lighting
  • Natural facial expression
  • Only one person in photo

IMPORTANT: Please be sure to create your images at the correct size and also optimize them to make the file as small as possible. Assistance can be provided to optimize, but please provide images that can be cropped to the recommended ratio and meeting the UNCG guidelines.

Information that can be added in the Employee Sidebar (override):

  • Professional Title. Please provide your current title.
  • Phone Override. This is available as some employees with front facing positions would rather have a front desk or main department number listed instead of their personal number.

When using photographs, video, or audio of individuals in connection with UNCG, including on any UNCG website and related sites, in any UNCG-produced programs, advertising, promotion, social media and/or publicity, it is important to consider if a UNCG Photo Release Form (“release”) from the subjects/models is required before the photography is published or otherwise made publicly available.

Releases are typically required if the individual:

  • Is recognizable; the primary focus of the photograph/video shot
  • Is identifiable in a small group setting, such as a small group of students studying in the library or congregating by the fountains. In these cases, a release should be obtained from each subject
  • Has been recruited to serve as a model
  • Is a minor (under 18 years of age); a parental release is required

Releases are typically not required if:

  • Photographed in large group shots in a public space or at public events with little expectation of privacy, such as commencements, sporting events, and concerts
  • It is a large group setting, such as wide shots of classrooms or campus scenic shots with no single subject
  • The subject is not recognizable, such as silhouettes, posterior view or out of focus
  • The photos/video are not being taken or distributed by UNCG. When news media is covering a story on campus or a production company is shooting content it plans to distribute, a UNCG photo release is not required. In many cases they will have their own releases.

Why do we need photo releases?

Photo releases are especially important and necessary when photographing students and complying with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), the federal law that protects the privacy of student education records.
