Spartan Jazz Collective: The Music of Yusef Lateef
The Crown at the Carolina Theatre 310 S Greene St, Greensboro, United StatesUNCG’s collaborative faculty-student septet presents the music of multi-instrumentalist and composer Yusef Lateef! From Detroit, he made his name as the third wind voice in the sextet of brothers Nat and Cannonball Adderley, and was credited with over 60 albums as a leader. Lateef’s unique woodwind style on saxophones, oboe, flute, and many other non-Western instruments was perfectly suited to his several hundred original compositions. Spartan Jazz Collective presents Mr. Lateef’s music in a unique woodwind-heavy lineup – including oboe and flute! – that will leave you searching for more music by this unsung hero of American music.

Opera Theatre presents Offenbach’s “The Lantern Marriage” and Menotti’s “The Old Maid and the Thief”
UNCG Auditorium 408 Tate Street, Greensboro, NC, United StatesJoin the UNCG Opera Theatre for an evening of light-hearted romance and comedy, as we present two short one acts: Offenbach’s The Lantern Marriage and Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief. In Offenbach’s charming operetta, our hero finds his treasure, disappointing the hopes of the two widows who had their sights set on making him their new husband. The Old Maid and the Thief narrative parallels The Lantern Marriage as two single women (Miss Todd and Miss Pinkerton) attempt to win the affections of Bob, who ends up finding his love in their maid, Laetitia.
