CVPA Advising

Your advising begins before you step foot on campus.  First-year students in the CVPA are pre-registered for courses before they attend SOAR (summer orientation).  During SOAR, you will meet the CVPA Advising Team and will be assigned your advisor depending on your major choice.  During SOAR, you will be able to make adjustments to your schedule.

If you are attending a non-CVPA dedicated SOAR session, the CVPA Advising Team will have walk-in hours on the second day of SOAR to adjust your schedule from 9:00 – 11:00 am in the Music Building, Dean’s Suite.

You are assigned to the CVPA Advising Team, who specialize in first-year transition, teach students how to navigate policies, procedures, and tools, and can make referrals to other campus resources.

You will meet with your CVPA advisor a minimum of three times during your first year (SOAR, Fall Advising and Spring Advising), but you will have continual outreach and support for the CVPA advising team throughout the year!

Once a student reaches 30 credit hours, they are reassigned to their faculty advisor within their major.  College of Visual & Performing Arts faculty advisors work within the discipline and can serve as mentors for students planning to go into fields within the arts.

Students can look up their assigned advisor within their UNCGenie account under the Student tab, Registration, and Look up advisor.

The first point of contact for transfer and readmitted students is Kristin Rusboldt, the Director of Undergraduate Advising.  Each transfer will be contacted via their iSpartan email account with instructions on advising and transfer articulation.
