College of Visual and Performing Arts Dean bruce d. mcclung has announced the appointment of Ashley White as Visiting Assistant Professor of Directing.
Ashley White is a dedicated director, intimacy director, and educator who champions an ensemble-focused, consent-forward approach. She recently served as the Associate Artistic Director at American Stage Theatre Company. White is currently a National Michael Chekhov Association Certification Candidate for Teaching. She holds over 30 hours of Fitzmaurice Voice Institute training. With over 130 hours in intimacy directing training, she is a certified Consent-Forward Artist through Intimacy Directors and Choreographers (IDC) and is currently in IDC’s Intimacy Directing for Live Performance Certification program. She holds certifications in Mental Health First Aid and DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) in the Workplace and has over 123 hours of Anti-Racism/DEI, Gender Identity, Allyship and Advocacy, Bystander Intervention, Mental Health, and Trauma Stewardship training.
Selected directing credits include Murder Ballad by Juliana Nash/Julia Jordan, Small Mouth Sounds by Bess Wohl, Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau, and Noises Off by Michael Frayn. Selected intimacy directing credits include The Chinese Lady by Lloyd Suh, As You Like It (musical adaptation) by Shaina Taub/Laurie Woolery, and In the Blood by Suzan-Lori Parks.
White holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Directing from The University of Alabama and a Master of Arts (MA) in Education from University of California, Davis. She is an associate member of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
