Although we, as faculty, are experiencing our fair share of ‘Zoom exhaustion,’ students are particularly vulnerable to its deleterious effects. Students are often tied to their computers for hours on end with back-to-back classes in dorm rooms that may be several floors from the ground level, leaving no time to take that quick ‘walking break’ in the fresh air that happens normally when classes meet face-to-face and students travel to various buildings throughout campus. Further, when students are able to leave their dorms, COVID-19 restrictions enforced at various gathering spots like the Library and the Kaplan Center leave fewer options for students when leaving their dorm rooms. Finally, class experiences could be enhanced by incorporating a few atypical strategies and approaches.
