Build professional connections, view theatre from a global perspective, and develop your skills in performance and design as you also build your self confidence in becoming a theatre artist of the world. Faculty-Led Study Abroad
Each summer School of Theatre performance and design faculty are excited to lead two and three week credit generating study abroad experiences to London, Rome, or Athens. Take in the history, culture and vibrant theatre scene while also exploring the great cultures of Western civilization that produced the likes of great theatre artists such as Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht, and Dario Fo. LONDON, STRATFORD-UPON-AVON,WALES, AND DUBLIN IRELAND
The Study Abroad 2018 Professional Theatre: Curiosity, Art, and Nature: Mindfulness in the Global Experience is in it’s third year. Led by Denise Gabriel and Preston Lane, this program will be travelling to London, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Wales, and Dublin Ireland summer 2018. Students participate in workshops with international artists, see and discuss productions at Stratford-Upon-Avon and London. The third week the group travels and expereinces a service learning collaborative relationship with Living Pictures UK. Participating in the Coed-Dylan Project in the beuatiful countryside of Wales with Artistic Director Robert Bowman and a variety of workshops with international teachers. The final week students travel to Ireland to focus on the Irish historical and storytelling culture that shape Irish Theatre from the legendary Martin McDonaugh to Connor McPherson.
Faculty Led Study Abroad program led by professor Denise Gabriel, Sensory Awareness in Action travels to Barra Navidad, Mexico The program is linked to THR 320: The Actor’s Space and is open to the UNCG campus. The program is designed to enhance students’ intercultural competence and awareness, allowing students to recognize and take advantage of opportunities for cross-cultural learning and engagement and deepen their interest with Sensory Awareness. This Faculty Led Study Abroad Program is traveling to Palafrugell, Spain December 2017.
This Study Abroad Program is currently being created as a cross disiplinary excursion. Faculty Leaders Barbara Campbell Thomas (Art) and Denise Gabriel (Theatre) will travel with students to Tokyo and Kyoto Japan. The course is scheduled for Summer 2019 and is connected to VPA 589: Mindfulness for Artists.
