The UNCG School of Dance will present its annual Fall Dances concert at the Van Dyke Performance Space in Greensboro, NC. Three shows will be performed on: November 17 at 8pm, and November 18 at 2 and 8pm. The Van Dyke Performance Space is located inside the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center at 200 N. Davie Street.

Performances in Fall Dances will include:

James, choreographed by guest artist Francine E. Ott.  This work blends hip-hop, house, modern, and African diaspora dances, along with scriptural references, to create a unique choreographic narrative.   

Shared Ground, as directed by UNCG faculty members Erika Boysen and Janet Lilly,  is an excerpt from a larger collaboratively created work Omphalos: Shared Ground that premiered in August, 2017 as part of the Corciano Arts Festival in Corciano, Italy.  An omphalos refers to an ancient Greek concept of the “navel” of the world from which all life comes and returns.  Visual artist Rosella Vasta initiated the Omphalos project as part of a UNESCO sponsored initiative responding to recent destructive earthquakes in the Umbria and Marche regions of Italy.  

Order My Steps, choreographed by New York based choreographer Ronald K. Brown and re-staged by UNCG Assistant Professor of Dance Clarice Young, was originally inspired by the idea of stumbling through life on one’s path, becoming lost and turning to the instructions in 119th Psalm, “Make me go in the path of thy commandments for therein do I delight…with my whole heart.”

Willing, Wanting, Waiting is the newest work of School of Dance Faculty member Maurice Watson, and will enjoy its world premiere at Fall Dances.
