College of Visual and Performing Arts Dean bruce d. mcclung has announced the appointment of Anna Kimmell as Lecturer in Musical Theatre Dance.
Anna Kimmell is a director, choreographer, and arts educator whose work bridges professional theatre, higher education, and community engagement. Originally from Atlanta, she began her career as a performer, touring nationally with The Wizard of Oz and appearing at regional theatres across the country before transitioning her focus to directing, choreography, and arts education.
Kimmell has dedicated her career to creating meaningful learning experiences for students from ages five to eighty-five. With extensive experience in arts leadership, she has served as Director of Education at Mill Mountain Theatre, Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Flat Rock Playhouse, and the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts. She has served as an Education Consultant for Syracuse Stage and the North Carolina Stage Company, led workshops and grant-funded residencies for schools and arts organizations across the country, and co-taught theatre, movement, and music workshops for students in rural communities in Los Andes, Chile.
At the collegiate level, Kimmell has taught, directed, and choreographed at Hollins University, Western Carolina University, and UNC Asheville. Recent directing and choreography credits include Footloose at Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Holiday Inn at Western Carolina University, Cabaret at UNC Asheville, A Christmas Story: The Musical at Argenta Contemporary Theatre, and A Charlie Brown Christmas at Flat Rock Playhouse. She also choreographed the soon-to-be-released Hallmark movie A Grand Biltmore Christmas, filmed at the historic Biltmore Estate in Asheville.
Anna Kimmell holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Elon University.
