Dance Pilates Cropped for Article

Though their certification coursework at UNCG, students are now able to get certified in mat and reformer Pilates. This not only serves as great cross training for the dances, it opens up additional revenue sources. “I love Pilates, it keeps me strong and in good dancing shape. With the additional income I will make as a Pilates instructor, I can work less hours a week and focus more on my training and performance as a dancer. It’s a win, win!” says Kate Gupton, a first year MFA student at UNCG and student in the Pilates certification program.

When asked about the program, Tiffany Hale, a second year MFA student in the program had this to say; “I wouldn’t be able to afford to get a Pilates certification if it weren’t for the program at UNCG. Being able to combine my course work with the certification has really made this a possibility for me.”

Preparing students for a diverse array of jobs post- graduation is a goal within the dance department. The Pilates Certification program is a unique opportunity for students to be prepared for their career post-UNCG. As the only university integrated Pilates instructor certification program in the state, this new program opens doors for students as they enter their career.
