If anyone knows how to embrace a theme it’s an artist, and there’s no shortage of Halloween happenings at UNCG’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. Here are some upcoming events with varying degrees of chills and thrills to help you celebrate the Spooky Season.

The Death Show

October 22nd – November 2nd

Greensboro Project Space, 111 E. February 1 Place

The sneaky thing about life is that it includes and requires death.

It’s an experience that awaits us all, and three Greensboro artists, Paige Cox, Leanne Pizio, and Peter Schroth, have put together an exhibition inspired by how they interpret the end.

Free and open to the public, visitors are invited to share their stories and thoughts on this topic.

Check the GPS website for viewing hours.

Collage Concert

October 26th @ 7:30 pm

UNCG Auditorium

School of Music faculty and students have conjured up a night of spine-tingling sensations for the 17th Annual Collage Concert in UNCG Auditorium.

It will be a night that is sure to get you in the Halloween spirit, with performances from spooky standards of the Western European tradition to newly composed music by our composition faculty and students.

Performers will be in various locations in the auditorium, and the music experience will be enhanced by special lighting. Many of the performers will be in costume, and the audience is invited to do the same.

Organ Spooktacular

October 29th @ 7:30 pm

Organ Recital Hall, Music Building

Not to fear, your own organs will remain intact, but the School of Music organ pipes will be rocking with eerie tunes for this one.

When the audience enters the hall, the lights will be low, and the traditional opening piece is Bach’s famous Toccata in D Minor.

After an evening of memorably macabre music, audience members will be invited to sing ghoulish Halloween “carols,” and the sweet treat of candy. Free to attend.

Carrie: the Musical

October 31st–November 3rd, various times

Pam and David Sprinkle Theatre, Brown Building

In a storm of teenage angst and supernatural power, Carrie White, a misunderstood outcast, yearns for acceptance in a world that shuns her. Tormented by the popular clique at school and suffocated by her mother’s oppressive love at home, Carrie remains a ghost to those around her, her true potential hidden beneath layers of pain.

But as the pressure builds and Carrie’s anguish reaches its peak, she uncovers a secret within herself—a power beyond comprehension. With newfound strength simmering beneath her fragile facade, Carrie teeters on the edge of a transformation, a force to be reckoned with if provoked.

As the world pushes her to her breaking point, Carrie embraces her extraordinary abilities, unleashing a torrent of chaos and retribution. In a riveting tale of empowerment and revenge, Carrie emerges as a force of nature, a beacon of both terror and liberation. Brace yourself for a thrilling ride as Carrie harnesses her special power and commands the stage with electrifying intensity!
