America’s premier “ambassador of song”  baritone Thomas Hampson will give a concert in Vienna on Monday, May 18, at 7:30 pm Vienna time, 1:30 pm Eastern Daylight time. Hampson will sing songs by Alban Berg, Gustav Mahler, and others. May 18th is the anniversary of Mahler’s death (also one day after Elizabeth’s birthday–happy birthday Elizabeth!).

Between the songs, the German actress Sunnyi Melles will read from letters between Alma Mahler and Arnold Schoenberg in their original German.  The English subtitles will be Elizabeth’s translations from the German, which will appear in the book, Schoenberg’s Correspondence with Alma Mahler, published by Oxford University Press.  This is the project for which Elizabeth has been awarded a Faculty First grant this summer.
