TRANSFORM YOUR PASSION FOR DANCE
INTO LIFELONG PURPOSE.
Have you ever said "I want to do this for the rest of my life?"
If so, UNCG can help you transform your passion for dance into your profession through several different degree paths. Each degree combines intensive training with practical experiences to prepare you for your chosen career. When you join our dance community, your focus will be on artistry and scholarship because we combine a liberal arts curriculum with dance practice and creative expression.
Within the context of UNCG's comprehensive liberal arts curriculum, the School of Dance offers bachelors and masters degrees that provide specialized skills for a variety of careers in the evolving field of dance. The school's primary goal is to teach students the imaginative, critical, and technical skills essential to the creative process and to scholarly inquiry. Our comprehensive curricula foster inclusive learning and intellectual curiosity framed by an engagement with cultural diversity, community outreach, and global issues as related to dance. The School of Dance prepares undergraduate and graduate students for further study and successful and productive lives as artists, educators, and scholars at the state, regional, national and international levels.
Four Reasons to Consider UNCG
Conservatory-quality training in the studio and cutting-edge scholarship in the classroom
The UNCG Dance curriculum is designed for students interested in developing their craft to the highest professional standards blended with a liberal arts education so that our graduates become engaged citizens as well as artists. Dance studio courses include contemporary, ballet, African, hip hop, jazz, and choreography. Academic and blended classes include, entrepreneurship, anatomy, dance history, dance pedagogy, dance for camera, and somatics.
Bringing learning to life outside the classroom
UNCG offers many opportunities to practice your craft, build your résumé, and make new connections. The Dance program offers performance opportunities for all majors and minors. And there are opportunities in musicals and other UNCG productions outside the Dance department. Undergraduate and Graduate students can showcase their own choreographic work in various department-sponsored events.
Study abroad and student exchange opportunities are common for students in all of our four-year dance programs. Organized through UNCG, dancers have studied abroad at schools in South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Malta. Numerous other international experiences are available.
Internships or field placements, often with local professional companies, are required in many of our degree programs. Many students also participate in regional and national festivals.
Scholarships and Assistantships
All undergraduate students who audition and are accepted into the program are considered for a dance scholarship. Assistantships and fellowships are available for qualified graduate students.
