The UNCG Jazz Ensemble, directed by Chad Eby, is regarded as one of the premier jazz ensembles in the nation, and the flagship of the Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program. Musicians who have performed with the UNCG Jazz Ensemble include Peter Bernstein, Bria Skonberg, Vincent Gardner, Clark Terry, Marian McPartland, Ellis Marsalis, and Billy Taylor, The UNCG Jazz Ensemble has toured extensively and has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and Dizzy’s Jazz Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center. This exciting group proudly performs the music from the entire jazz era, beginning in the 1920’s, and also performs music which was written by our students. Every year, the jazz ensemble produces a compact disc recording whose recordings have received 5 star reviews and are commonly heard on NPR. The Herb Wong Blue Chip Award in Jazz Education Journal honored the UNCG Jazz Ensemble, having earned the “Top 10 Best Jazz College Recordings” three years in a row.
