MFA Exhibition: Anna Wallace and Brittany R. Gilbert

March 23, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Opening March 23, 6-9PM
Greensboro Project Space.

One night only to see the show and live performances by Anna Wallace!

Busy Work by Anna Wallace:

Busy Work is an investigation of feminism. The impetus is my own attempt to reconcile the identities of mother, feminist, and artist. It is my hope that this body of work will provoke viewers to reexamine how their gendered categorizations of bright colors, loud patterns, and soft textures lead to unfair value judgments about content, and that this heightened awareness gained through a close read of the work will encourage the same thoughtful response in personal interactions outside the art context.

Prolonged Encounters by Brittany Gilbert:

First-hand experience.  Time.  Change.  Familiarity.  These four elements are essential to my practice as a painter.

Through sequential landscape painting, I aim to explore these elements.

Repetition and series allow me to capture immediate impressions, yet still arrive at a fuller understanding of the space through multiple images.  The shapes, color and sense of depth are constantly changing; light and weather conditions can conceal and reveal forms.  The work becomes not only a record of the space itself, but also of my fluctuating perceptions.
