Haley Blake-Lee:

This first summer term, Blake-Lee applied to study abroad in the Art of Italy: Florence and take two art courses: ARH 395: Florence and the Medici and ART 322: Variable Topics in Drawing/Artist Sketchbook: Methods & Making during her 5-week excursion. Haley Blake-Lee, 23, is a senior, Studio Art major with a double minor in American Sign Language and Community and Therapeutic Recreation. She will graduate with a B.A. in the Spring 2019. Over 800 applications were reviewed for the Summer 2018 cycle and she was one of a select few that received the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship at UNCG and other colleges across the U.S. This financial award and UNCG’s Financial Aid program provided Blake-Lee with the support that she required to study abroad. One of the requirements of the Gilman International Scholarship is to complete a Follow-On Project which is used “to promote the Gilman Scholarship and international education” and inspire other students with financial need to apply and utilize this scholarship to study abroad while in college.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness.

The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.
