CANCELED: Artist Talk with Kendell Carter

April 23, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In all his work, Kendell Carter seeks to reward imaginative moves beyond clichés and stereotypes. Describing “Meditation on Team (Waves for Scottie),” an image of the artist on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, he notes, “It’s an alternative to the idea of the physically heroic male athlete” whose success rests in physical strength and individual dominance.”

Kendell Carter received his MFA from California State University Long Beach. He has had solo exhibitions at Edward Cella Art & Architecture, Los Angeles, CA, the Amory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, CA; moniquemeloche, Chicago, IL; and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA, among others. His work is included in the public collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, San Diego, CA; Fundação Sindika Dokolo, Luanda, Angola; the Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, CA; and SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah, GA. He is represented by Edward Cella Art & Architecture.

This program is held in conjunction To the Hoop: Basketball and Contemporary Art and is supported by a gift from Sherry Sherrill. Free.
