SUGARFOOTE PRODUCTIONS presents "Finding Home Dance Concert"

GREENSBORO, NC - On February 28th and March 1st at 8pm, Sugarfoote Productions and will present an evening of music and dance celebrating the art of West Africa and beyond. Performances will take place in the UNCG Dance Theater, located at 1408 Walker Avenue. In recognition of Black History Month Sugarfoote Productions presents Finding Home, an eclectic program reflecting the diverse voices of the diaspora and featuring professional guest artists from around the country. The project celebrates Gee's return from 6 months in Burkina Faso and explores the notion of "home" and how we define our most intimate spaces emotionally, physically and intellectually. The evening is an extension of Gee's work on the continent and her investigations into her own identity. The evening of collaborative dance, music and spoken word will feature the work of guest Choreographer Kwame Shaka Opare, former principal artist with Broadway's STOMP!! and Artistic Director of DishiDem Traditional Contemporary Dance Company (

Sugarfoote Productions is a multipurpose arts organization created to help local audiences experience the richness of African and Diasporan cultural traditions. Established in 2006 by Robin M Gee, Associate Professor of Dance at UNC Greensboro, Sugarfoote continues to pave new roads in the area of cultural arts offering performances, workshops and lecture demonstrations to a variety of area institutions and bringing students and members of the community in close proximity with the traditional arts on a local and national level. The performing end of the company has presented works throughout the triad, featuring a commissioned works presented at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in NYC in 2009. Gee was a 2012-13 recipient of the international Fulbright Scholars Award traveling to Burkina Faso from January to July 2013 to continue her research into the changing economies of performing castes in Western Africa.
