Dave Brubeck

Dave Brubeck (1920-2012) was one of the most creative musicians ever to walk the earth.  While he is best known as a jazz pianist and leader of one of the most successful jazz combos in history, his prolific compositional output for orchestra, choir, chamber ensemble, and classical piano has still not been absorbed by music history books.  This four-day symposium, sponsored by The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and co-sponsored by Music for a Great Space, will consist of concerts representing Dave Brubeck’s various styles, lectures by prominent scholars, original choreography, and an array of other presentations.  The event will be both a celebration of one of America’s most significant musicians and a contribution to an assessment of Dave Brubeck’s legacy.
