Workshops

Instructional Technology workshops in the College of Visual and Performing arts (CVPA) are offered on an as-needed basis. Upcoming workshops are listed below with short summaries of the workshops and all information required for registration and attendance. If you are interested in requesting a specific topic, please email derice@uncg.edu. All workshops are held virtually using Zoom, Webex, or Google Meet. Registration will include a link to the corresponding virtual session. Most workshops are recorded for later viewing to assist those faculty who may not be able to attend.


Web Conferencing Tools for Online Learning and Best Practices

The content included in this workshop will focus on the use of web conferencing tools currently available for use by UNCG faculty and staff, including Zoom, Webex, and Google Meet. Basic functionality of each platform will be presented with particular attention on several features that are more applicable to use cases in the visual and performing arts.

GAFE and Other Cloud Services

UNCG offers Google Apps for Education for all faculty and staff including Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites, Google Meet, Groups, and more. This workshop will cover basic functionality in the most used Google apps by faculty at UNCG: Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. We will discuss general use cases as well as collaborative tools that can be used in the standalone applications as well as integration with Canvas and other various tools and applications (including Box). Future workshops will cover individual Google Apps for Education services individually for a more in-depth look at using them in your learning environments.

Canvas for the Visual and Performing Arts

Canvas is the learning management system adopted by UNCG in 2016. This workshop will explore basic functionality of Canvas and its feature set focusing on features that may be more applicable to those teaching and designing courses in the visual and performing arts. This workshop can be taken in tandem with the CVPA Introduction to Canvas course but it is not a pre or co-requisite.

Canvas Studio Interactive Video Integration for Visual and Performing Arts

Canvas Studio is a communication tool that allows instructors and students to actively collaborate through video and audio media. This workshop will provide an introduction to Canvas Studio and an overview of primary features of the tool and integration with Canvas. Discussion of common use cases among CVPA faculty will also be included.

CVPA Introduction to Canvas

This self-paced course covers basic topics to assist you in learning how to use Canvas in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. As you progress through the course, you will explore several topics on preparing your Canvas course, including: customizing and organizing your course, learning the process by which you can create activities and assessments, evaluating student work, and collaboration tools.

Introduction to Qualtrics

Qualtrics is a simple to use web-based survey tool to conduct survey research, evaluations and other data collection activities. Faculty and staff at UNCG have access to the Qualtrics research suite to build surveys, distribute surveys and analyze responses. This session will provide an overview of Qualtrics and its uses at UNCG as a survey tool for faculty and staff. Features that will be demonstrated in this workshop: creating a survey, editing, publishing, collecting data, distribution, triggers, survey redirect, and more.
