Lingyuan (Maggie) Zhao

Lingyuan (Maggie) Zhao is the Assistant Artistic Director and Rehearsal director at Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers, a professional dance company located in Philadelphia. Zhao’s interest in Eastern philosophy in dance composition, pedagogy and performance has brought her onto an immigrant journey in the U.S as a dance artist and practitioner. She received her MFA in choreography (2015) from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, where she also served as a Teaching Assistant during her graduate studies. Zhao started her professional dance training with ballet, Chinese Classical and Folk dances at Chongqing Dance School, and then pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Beijing Capital Normal University. In China, Zhao worked in the Asian Dance Research Center as a dance teacher and served as the Assistant to the Artistic Director at Chinese Children’s Musical Theater. In 2008, at the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games, Zhao performed and assisted the choreographer in the dance, Fly. In the U.S, she has taught workshops as a guest artist at UNC Charlotte, Temple University, Cabrini University and Swarth more College. She is also on the Advisory Group at Crafting Community Project of Interfaith Philadelphia.
