Donna Franklin is the director and instructor of the dance program at Chatham Hall, a private, all girls boarding school located in Chatham, VA. She is an MFA student and Graduate Assistant in the School of Dance and a 2020 recipient of the Graduate School’s Inclusiveness Award. Donna began her training at Aesthetics dance studio in Ellicott City, MD, where she performed with the resident company, The Howard County Ballet. She also received early training at the Ballet Theatre of Maryland School, and studied abroad at the Ecole Supérieure de Danse de Cannes. Her love of dance took her to New York, where she studied at Steps On Broadway, and was frequent performer in the Lab for Creative Experiments. The internationally recognized teachers Donna trained with include Emilietta Ettlin, Wilhelm Burmann, Finis Jhung and David Howard. While in NY, Donna taught ballet and Ettlin Floor Technique at Steps On Broadway and Broadway Dance Center in Manhattan. Upon relocating to the Triad, Donna danced professionally with The Greensboro Ballet, and appeared as a guest artist in numerous local and touring productions. In 2010, Donna completed a teacher training program in The Classical Ballet Method developed by Aggripina Vaganova. Since then, she has taught, choreographed, and written and scored ballet productions throughout North Carolina and Virginia. (Headshot by Steve Clarke).
