Angeline Shaka

Angeline Shaka holds a PhD in Culture and Performance Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MA in Performance Studies from New York University. She has taught at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in the departments of American Studies, American Indian and Indigenous Studies, and Performance Studies. She has also taught in Texas Woman’s University’s Department of Dance and in UCLA’s World Arts and Culture/Dance Department, and has been a certified Classical Pilates instructor since 1997. Her areas of interest include Indigenous dance, contemporary dance practices, choreography and embodiment, issues of gender and sexuality representation in dance. Publications include articles and book reviews from Theatre Journal, Films for the Feminist Classroom, Dance Research Journal, Journal for Folklore Research Review, and Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism.
