With her haunting songs and cinematic arrangements of live-looped fiddle tunes\, she has captivated audiences around the world and gone on to compose the original score for Macbeth on Broadway\, starring Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga. Her work moves fluidly across genres—she has collaborated with Michael Stipe\, The Decemberists\, Wilco\, LOW\, and Pigface. \n\n\n\nWheelchair Sports Camp is fronted by Kalyn Rose Heffernan and nicknamed Denver’s biggest smallest band. The band combines humor\, playfulness\, middle fingers\, and an undeniable love for the groove. Itis certainly not your average hip-hop act. He is coordinator of the piano program and director of music performance graduate studies at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music\, where his class of students has featured many prize-winning young artists. \n\n\n\nIn an eclectic repertoire encompassing the solo and chamber music literatures\, Giles is equally at home in the standard repertoire as in the music of our time. He has commissioned and premiered works by William Bolcom\, C. Curtis-Smith\, Stephen Hough\, Lowell Liebermann\, Ned Rorem\, Augusta Read Thomas\, Earl Wild\, and James Wintle. Most of these new works are featured on Giles’s Albany Records release entitled “American Virtuoso.” His recording of solo works by Schumann and Prokofiev is available on England’s Master Musicians label. He recorded John Harbison’s Horn Trio with the Chicago Chamber Musicians and Timothy Dunne’s Piano Concerto with the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic in Russia. \n\n\n\nHis Paris recital at the Salle Cortot in was hailed as “a true revelation\, due equally to the pianist’s artistry as to his choice of program.” After a recital at the Sibelius Academy\, the critic for Helsinki’s main newspaper wrote that “Giles is a technically polished\, elegant pianist.” And a London critic called his Wigmore Hall recital “one of the most sheerly inspired piano recitals I can remember hearing for some time” and added that “with a riveting intelligence given to everything he played\, it was the kind of recital you never really forget.” \n\n\n\nHe has performed with New York’s Jupiter Symphony (Alkan and Czerny); the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra in Queen Elizabeth Hall (Mozart and Beethoven); the Kharkiv Philharmonic in Ukraine (Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff); and with the Opera Orchestra of New York in Alice Tully Hall (Chopin). After his Tully Hall solo recital debut\, critic Harris Goldsmith wrote: “Giles has a truly distinctive interpretive persona. This was beautiful pianism – direct and unmannered.” Other tours have included concerts in the Shanghai International Piano Festival; St. Petersburg’s White Nights New Music Festival\, Warsaw’s Chopin Academy of Music; Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Series\, Salt Lake City’s Assembly Hall Concert Series\, and in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center\, the Musikhalle in Hamburg\, and the Purcell Room at London’s South Bank Centre. He has given live recitals over the public radio stations of New York\, Boston\, Chicago\, and Indianapolis. As a chamber musician he has collaborated with members of the National and Chicago Symphonies and with members of the Escher\, Pacifica\, Cassatt\, Chicago\, Ying\, Chester\, St. Lawrence\, Essex\, Lincoln\, and Miami Quartets\, as well as singers Aprile Millo and Anthony Dean Griffey. \n\n\n\nA native of North Carolina\, Dr. Giles studied with Byron Janis at the Manhattan School of Music\, Jerome Lowenthal at the Juilliard School\, Nelita True at the Eastman School of Music\, and Robert Shannon at Oberlin College. He received early career assistance from the Clarisse B. Kampel Foundation and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Italy with the legendary pianist Lazar Berman. \n\n\n\nThe pianist was the recipient of a fellowship grant and the Christel Award from the American Pianists Association. He won first prizes at the New Orleans International Piano Competition\, the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition\, and the Music Teachers National Association Competition. As a student he was awarded the prestigious William Petschek Scholarship at the Juilliard School and the Arthur Dann Award at the Oberlin College Conservatory. He wrote for Piano and Keyboard magazine and has presented lecture-recitals at the national conventions of the Music Teachers National Association\, the College Music Society\, and Pi Kappa Lambda. He regularly serves on competition jury panels and has been conference artist for many state music teachers associations. \n\n\n\nHe gives master classes and lectures at schools nationwide\, including Juilliard\, Manhattan\, Eastman\, Oberlin\, Indiana\, Yale\, and New England. During the summers he is director of the Amalfi Coast Music Festival and has taught at the Gijon Piano Festival\, Obidos Master Classes\, Eastern Music Festival\, Bowdoin\, Brevard\, Art of the Piano\, Colburn\, Interlochen\, ARIA\, Pianofest in the Hamptons\, and the Schlern Festival in Italy. His classes internationally have occurred throughout China as well as at Seoul National University\, Hanyang University (Seoul)\, Ewha Woman’s University (Seoul)\, the Royal Danish Academy of Music (Copenhagen)\, the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki)\, the Chopin Academy (Warsaw)\, the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester) and the Royal College of Music (London).

Prior to his work in Mississippi\, he was Assistant Professor of Woodwinds at Minot State University. Formerly a band director in the public schools in Mason I.S.D. in Mason\, TX\, Estes has also held posts as Visiting Professor of Saxophone at Furman University\, the University of South Carolina as well as Instructor of Saxophone at Presbyterian College and the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. Dr. Estes has been the principal bassoonist with the Western Plains Opera Company\, the Minot Symphony Orchestra\, and has been a regular substitute bassoonist and saxophonist with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra\, Memphis Symphony Orchestra\, North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra\, South Carolina Philharmonic\, Charleston Symphony Orchestra\, and Augusta Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore\, Estes is a founding member of the Assembly Quartet. He has recorded on Navona Records\, Amp Recordings\, MSR Classics\, Albany Records\, Mark Custom\, and maintains an active performance schedule as a soloist\, chamber musician\, and orchestral musician. His performing career has taken him to venues in Scotland\, Ireland\, Austria\, Switzerland\, France\, and Belgium. He holds graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Tarleton State University. His primary teachers have been Clifford Leaman\, Greg Ball\, Peter Kolkay\, Carol Lowe\, and Douglas Graham.Adam Estes is a Légère Endorsing Artist\, Yamaha Performing Artist\, and serves at the Region 6 Director of the North American Saxophone Alliance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAward-winning pianist Dr. Monica (Hyebin) Song has performed throughout the United States and abroad since the age of thirteen. Recent highlights include recitals at Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall)\, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and Alma Mater Cultural Center in Korea\, Teatro Auditorium Collegio Vescovile Barbargio in Italy\, North Carolina Museum of Arts and concert tours in Washington D.C.\, Maryland\, and Virginia. Furthermore\, her performance in the Tae-An Flood Relief Charity Concert was nationally broadcasted by the Korean Broadcast Station.Dr. Song earned her Doctorate and Master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music\, where she studied under Natalya Antonova and Thomas Schumacher. She completed her Bachelor’s degree with Alexander Korsantia at the New England Conservatory of Music. She has previously served as a piano faculty at Meredith College Community School and Raleigh Community Music School and as an accompanist at Duke University\, and Meredith College.  She is currently on faculty at East Tennessee State University.

As pioneers for the unique instrumentation\, they have commissioned over seventy works and have received grants from The Alice M. Ditson Fund\, Chamber Music America\, FROMM Foundation\, Foundation for Contemporary Arts\, Brooklyn Arts Council\, and Queens Arts Council to produce their concerts in New York City and the US. They have been guest performers and resident artists at Appalachian State University (2026)\, Converse University (2026)\, Emory University (2025)\, University of Florida (2025\, 2021)\, University of North Carolina-Wilmington (2025)\, Columbus State University (2025)\, Princeton University (2024)\, and UMASS-Amherst (2020). He won top prizes in several national and international piano competitions\, including the Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition\, New York Artist International Competition\, and St. Louis Artist Presentation competition. He has performed in many states in the US\, as well as multiple countries throughout Europe\, a notable example being a well-reviewed solo recital at Carnegie Hall.  In 2008 he nearly lost the index finger of his left hand\, but thanks to a successful surgery he made a near full recovery.  \n\n\n\nHe has been a soloist with several orchestras\, and worked with conductors such as Hans Vonk. As a chamber pianist Vincent\, performed with musicians like Dmitri Sitkovetski\, members of the Ciompi Quartet\, Red Clay Quartet\, and his wife\, Dr. Ināra Zandmane. He has collaborated with several composers including the Argentinean composer Alejandro Rutty\, who wrote a piano concerto for him that premiered at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. \n\n\n\nHighly acclaimed performances were in London\, England\, the Van Cliburn Festival\, and Harpa Hall in Iceland. As a composer\, he won  the 2025 International Fidelio Piano Composition Competition in Madrid\, Spain. Dr. van Gelder’s recordings have been played on radio and tv stations in the US as well as The Netherlands.  \n\n\n\nIn June of 2018 he performed at Harpa Hall in Reykjavik Iceland\, where he performed the world premiere of one of his own works\, ‘Guardians of Iceland-Eylin’s Journey’—a large\, multi-movement piece based on Icelandic legends\, a piano performance accompanied by artwork from his then 13 year old daughter\, Natalie van Gelder. Their next project\, ‘Ardenuir: The Stone in the Sword\,’ saw its premiere in 2022 at the Virginia Somerville Sutton Theatre in Greensboro\, North Carolina. They subsequently toured many concert halls in North Carolina.  \n\n\n\nIn September 2024\, Natalie published her first animated short film\, ‘Home Cooked Meals’\, with an original soundtrack written and performed by Vincent van Gelder. This short film is a featured animation at the NC Film Festival\, the Cary Film Festival\, the Raleigh Film and Art Festival\, and OUT at the Movies International Film Festival.  \n\n\n\nIn 2024\, Dr. van Gelder was invited to do record works by Jacobo Palm and other Caribbean composers for the Palm Foundation in The Netherlands. This is an ongoing project. \n\n\n\nDr. van Gelder studied in Holland\, Latvia\, and the US\, receiving two Masters and subsequently a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. His most influential teachers were Leslie Howard\, Czerny-Stefanska\, Teofils Bikis\, Arnis Zandmanis\, Wilfred Delphin\, and Richard Cass.   \n\n\n\nHe has been a member of the piano faculty at Duke University.  He is the founder and president of the Triad Institute for Young Musicians.

Recent engagements include appearances with Chicago Symphony Orchestra\, The Cleveland Orchestra\, The Philadelphia Orchestra\, Los Angeles Philharmonic\, National Symphony Orchestra\, and Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de São Paulo. She is a recipient of the Sphinx Medal of Excellence and the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award\, and she served as the inaugural Christel DeHaan Artistic Partner of the American Piano Awards. \n\n\n\nHighlights of Cann’s 2025-26 season include appearances with the Colorado Symphony\, New Jersey Symphony\, Kansas City Symphony\, and Ireland’s National Symphony Orchestra. She also performs the world premiere of a new piano concerto by Valerie Coleman with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington\, D.C. Her recital appearances include Stanford Live\, Music Toronto\, Chamber Music Detroit\, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum\, Spivey Hall\, and a recital tour in China. \n\n\n\nRecognized as a leading interpreter of the piano music of Florence Price\, Cann performed the New York City premiere of Price’s Piano Concerto in One Movement with The Dream Unfinished Orchestra in July 2016 and the Philadelphia premiere with The Philadelphia Orchestra and Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin in February 2021. Her recording of the concerto with the New York Youth Symphony won a GRAMMY Award in 2023 for Best Orchestral Performance. She won a GRAMMY Award in 2025 for Beyond the Years: Unpublished Songs of Florence Price\, recorded with soprano Karen Slack\, which features 19 unpublished songs composed by Price. Her acclaimed debut solo album Revival\, featuring music by Price and Margaret Bonds\, was released in May 2023 on the Curtis Studio label. She has also recorded two Price piano quintets with the Catalyst Quartet as a part of the quartet’s UNCOVERED series. She regularly performs duo piano repertoire with her sister\, pianist Kimberly Cann\, as the Cann Duo. She has appeared as co-host and collaborative pianist with NPR’s From The Top\, collaborating with actor/conductor Damon Gupton\, violinist Leila Josefowicz\, and violinist and MacArthur Fellow Vijay Gupta. Cann’s numerous media appearances include Performance Today\, PBS Great Performances’ Now Hear This\, and Living the Classical Life. \n\n\n\nEmbracing a dual role as performer and pedagogue\, Cann is frequently invited to teach master classes\, give lecture-demonstrations\, and lead teaching residencies. Recent residencies include the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival and the National Conference of the Music Teachers National Association. She has recorded lessons for tonebase\, the popular piano lesson platform. She has also served on the juries of the Cleveland International Piano Competition\, the Kauffman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition\, and the piano competition of the Music Academy of the West. \n\n\n\nCann holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music\, where she studied with Paul Schenly and Dr. Daniel Shapiro\, and an Artist’s Diploma from Curtis Institute of Music\, where she studied with Robert McDonald. She joined the Curtis piano faculty in 2020 as the inaugural Eleanor Sokoloff Chair in Piano Studies. She is also on the piano faculty of the Manhattan School of Music. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDaniel Ericourt Artist Residency in Piano\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Ericourt Residency honors the artistry of the great French pianist Daniel Ericourt (1903-1998)\, who held the position of Artist in Residence at the UNCG School of Music from 1963 through 1976. His legacy as an artist teacher is documented by one of his former students\, Dr. Judy Hutton\, in her 1993 DMA treatise. In 1994\, at the age of ninety\, Ericourt played a memorable all-Debussy recital as the guest artist for the UNCG Focus on Piano Literature symposium.  His recordings of the complete piano music of Debussy were reissued on the Ivory Classics label in 2003 to honor the centenary of his birth. \n\n\n\nThe Ericourt Residency was founded in 2007 through a gift from Mr. Bill Heins\, a friend of Daniel Ericourt and a cousin of Mr. Ericourt’s widow Jayne Winfield Ericourt. Jayne continues to be a beloved presence at many School of Music keyboard events. \n\n\n\nSince its founding in 2007\, the Ericourt Residency has brought these renowned artists to UNCG: José Feghali\, Jon Nakamatsu\, Jacques Després\, Pascal Rogé\, David Owen Norris\, Charles Richard-Hamelin\, Daria Rabotkina\, Craig Sheppard\, Lydia Artymiw\, Sara Davis Buechner\, Inna Faliks\, and Drew Petersen.
