At the center of the program is Johann de Meij’s Un momento dado\, which brings the two ensembles together in an expansive work filled with color\, energy\, and vivid musical contrasts. \n\n\n\nThe concert also explores the breadth of the wind repertoire through works by three compelling American and European voices. Ida Gotkovsky’s Poème du feu evokes the intensity and transformative power of fire\, while Charles Ives’s “The Alcotts” offers a reflective musical portrait inspired by the transcendentalist world of Concord\, Massachusetts. Matt Browne’s Keep It Up brings the program to an energetic close with rhythmic drive and infectious momentum. \n\n\n\nTogether\, these works move from fiery brilliance and contemplative lyricism to sweeping musical storytelling\, highlighting the rich colors and expressive possibilities of winds. \n\n\n\nBack to Program \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Guest Artists\nAkropolis Reed Quintet\n\n\n\nFounded in 2009\, the Billboard-charting\, 7-time national prize-winning Akropolis Reed Quintet is “a sonically daring ensemble who specializes in performing new works with charisma and integrity” (BBC Music Magazine). In 2025\, the ensemble made history as the lead ensemble on the GRAMMY® Award-winning recording of Strands by Pascal Le Boeuf\, which won Best Instrumental Composition at the 67th Annual GRAMMY® Awards. Comprising five reed players and entrepreneurs unbounded by limits or categorization\, Akropolis has graced the Classical Billboard Charts with each of their last three albums\, including #2 in April\, 2024\, and has won seven national chamber music prizes including the 2014 Fischoff Gold Medal. Having premiered and commissioned more than 200 works by living artists and composers\, they are pioneers and champions of a new genre of classical music—the reed quintet. \n\n\n\nComposed of the same five members that brought about its founding over 15 years ago at the University of Michigan\, they are the first ensemble to receive the University’s Paul M. Boylan Alumni Award. Akropolis delivers 120 concerts and educational events worldwide each year at luminary series including Tanglewood\, Bravo! Vail\, University Musical Society\, Chamber Music Northwest\, and more. Akropolis became the first reed quintet associated with a GRAMMY®-winning recording through its 2024 album\, Are We Dreaming the Same Dream?\, a collaboration with Pascal Le Boeuf and drummer Christian Euman. The album features “Strands\,” which earned the 2025 GRAMMY® Award for Best Instrumental Composition. \n\n\n\nUtilizing their “sheer musical imagination” (Gramophone)\, the quintet is also known for powerful collaborations with youth and others within its Southeast Michigan community. Certified as a 510(c)(3) nonprofit organization\, Akropolis runs a Detroit-based summer festival called Together We Sound\, holds an annual\, school year-long music composition residencies at Cass Tech\, Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, and Detroit School of Arts high schools\, and produces a 10-day Chamber Music Institute focused on artist training in partnership with Interlochen Center for the Arts.   \n\n\n\nDescribed as “pure gold” by the San Francisco Chronicle\, Akropolis Reed Quintet performs worldwide and is represented exclusively by Ariel Artists. \n\n\n\nBack to Program \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Wind Ensemble\n\n\n\n\nThe UNCG Wind Ensemble is the premier wind band of the UNCG School of Music\, uniting fifty outstanding musicians from across the United States and around the world. Its members—ranging from first‑year undergraduates to master’s and doctoral students in performance and music education—are selected through a highly competitive audition process. Ensemble musicians regularly earn top solo and chamber awards\, competitive scholarships and fellowships\, and professional positions in orchestras\, military bands\, teaching\, and arts leadership. Current students represent seventeen states\, Slovenia\, and Hong Kong. \n\n\n\nFor decades\, the ensemble has built a distinguished record of artistic excellence\, with acclaimed performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts\, Lincoln Center\, and leading venues throughout the eastern United States. Its catalog of more than twenty commercial recordings has received national recognition and helped position UNCG as a leader in wind band performance\, commissioning\, and recording. \n\n\n\nThe Wind Ensemble has been featured at major national and regional conferences of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA)\, National Band Association (NBA)\, American Bandmasters Association (ABA)\, and Music Educators National Conference (MENC). The ensemble has also collaborated with prominent composers and performers\, including Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Karel Husa and other influential figures in the field. \n\n\n\nRecent highlights include performances at the Music Center at Strathmore; a joint concert with the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own”; a twelve‑day international tour through the Czech Republic\, Austria\, and Italy\, culminating in a featured performance at Prague’s renowned Dvořák Hall; and a tour of the Southern United States that concluded with an appearance at the national conference of the College Band Directors National Association. \n\n\n\nBack to Program \n\n\n\n\nUNCG Bands\nThe UNCG Bands are devoted to the performance\, study\, and advancement of wind band music at the highest artistic level. With her haunting songs and cinematic arrangements of live-looped fiddle tunes\, she has captivated audiences around the world and gone on to compose the original score for Macbeth on Broadway\, starring Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga. Her work moves fluidly across genres—she has collaborated with Michael Stipe\, The Decemberists\, Wilco\, LOW\, and Pigface. \n\n\n\nWheelchair Sports Camp is fronted by Kalyn Rose Heffernan and nicknamed Denver’s biggest smallest band. The band combines humor\, playfulness\, middle fingers\, and an undeniable love for the groove. Itis certainly not your average hip-hop act. Tom Murphy of Westword writes “You can’t really pin Kalyn’s beats and collaborators to a specific era or subgenre of hip-hop\, and she always switches up her configuration and presentation and methodology while making the music happen in consistently fascinating ways.”

SUMMARY:Rennie Harris Puremovement American Dance Theater
DESCRIPTION:Rennie Harris Puremovement American Dance Theater (RHPM) is the leading US street dance theater company\, and for over thirty-five years has been dedicated to preserving and disseminating hip-hop aesthetics and street dance culture through workshops\, classes\, history\, lecture demonstrations\, long-term residencies\, mentoring programs\, and public performances. With his roots in the inner-city\, Harris and RHPM present unique stories that are riveting\, intimate\, and honest. RHPM’s mission is to re-educate the public about hip-hop culture and street dance through its artistic work\, sharing the essence and spirit of street dance\, rather than the commercially exploited stereotype portrayed by the media.  \n\n\n\nDr. Lorenzo “Rennie” Harris is a leading ambassador for hip-hop. Harris grew up entrenched in hip-hop culture in all its forms—music\, dance\, language. Throughout his career\, he has embraced the culture and sought to honor its legacy\, believing that hip-hop and street dance is the purest form of movement in that it honors both African and African American-Latino culture. Harris is well versed in the vernacular of what he calls hip-hop “proper\,” as well as the various techniques of B-boy\, house\, GQ and other styles that have emerged spontaneously from the inner cities of America\, like the North Philadelphia community in which he was raised.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets & Pricing\n\n\n\n\n\nTicket TypeOrchestra/MezzUNCG Students$7.50Regional Students$15.00UNCG Faculty/Staff$20.00Adults$30.00Seniors/Military$22.00Children (K-12)$10.00\n\n\n\n\nPURCHASE TICKETS\n\n\n\n* Tickets to CVPA and UCLS events are sold exclusively through our box office locations and ETix website\, and nowhere else. It is a collection of paintings and mixed media works\, each conducting their own exploration. SUMMARY:The End of the World Party Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The End of the World Party\n\n\n\nSolo Exhibition by Juno Rose  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOctober 27 – 31\, 2026\n\n\n\nReception: Friday\, Oct 30th | 6-8P\n\n\n\nMore About The End of the World Party \n\n\n\nThe End of the World Party uses the imagery of biblical and nuclear apocalypse to explore the intersection of racial and queer identity\, primarily centering black\, gender-nonconforming bodies. Using film and illustration in tandem\, this dying world of burning pylons\, broken power lines\, and crying angels is brought to life\, using Juno Rose\, and her ever-evolving character\, Mandinga\, as its main subjects. Alongside the main concept\, this exhibition invites you to sit and watch the other filmic works of Juno Rose\, these films exploring race\, intimacy\, and sexuality through a variety of genres. In all\, these four rooms use the often-overlooked perspectives of black\, queer\, and transgender individuals to ask the viewer to consider the beliefs they have about themselves and those who look nothing like them as they navigate a volatile America and an increasingly inhospitable land. \n\n\n\nMore About Juno Rose \n\n\n\nJuno Rose is an Afro-Caribbean gender-nonconforming filmmaker\, animator\, and illustrator whose work explores the intersection of racial\, sexual\, and queer identity using surrealist imagery and absurdist perspectives. Rose graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 2024\, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation. Since then\, she has worked on multiple award-winning\, festival-selected films\, showcasing her work at a variety of east-coast venues such as the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta\, The Carolina Theatre in Greensboro\, The North Carolina Museum of Art\, and many more with the help of the film collective she co-founded\, Classroom 105. \n\n\n\nCurrently\, she continues her analysis of black and queer life with her newest project: End of the World\, the first installation of which premieres at the Greensboro Project Space. \n\n\n\nLearn more:  www.junopunkia.com   | IG: @junopunkia

SUMMARY:The Cadence of Form
DESCRIPTION:The Cadence of Form: Pat Wasserboehr Explores the Interplay of Form\, Space\, and Movement \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPublic Opening Reception\n\n\n\nThursday\, November 5 from 4–6 PM\n\n\n\n Artist Talk at 4:30 PM\n\n\n\n\nThe Cadence of Form: Pat Wasserboehr Explores the Interplay of Form\, Space\, and Movement \n\n\n\nAn exhibition celebrating a distinguished sculptural practice shaped by modernist traditions\, architectural principles\, and the human body.  \n\n\n\n In The Cadence of Form\, sculptor Pat Wasserboehr brings together modernist influences\, architectural sensibilities\, and references to the human body in a sustained exploration of form\, space\, and movement. Grounded in her enduring commitment to formalism\, Wasserboehr’s work examines the relationships between internal and external forms\, the spaces they define\, and the rhythms that emerge through their arrangement. Her sculptures invite viewers to consider the essential elements of three-dimensional composition\, where balance\, tension\, structure\, and movement become the primary language of expression.  \n\n\n\nWorking in stone\, plaster\, and wood\, Wasserboehr investigates the physical properties of her materials through a precise and deliberate process of modeling and construction. Her compositions explore the interplay of mass and void\, strength and suspension\, and stability and movement. Rather than relying on narrative\, she emphasizes the visual and spatial relationships that give each work its presence\, revealing how subtle shifts in form and structure can transform the experience of an object and its surrounding space.  \n\n\n\nWasserboehr’s artistic practice is informed by a distinguished academic career spanning more than four decades at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG)\, where she taught in the School of Art from 1982 to 2024. As Head of the School from 1998 to 2010\, she helped shape its development and influenced generations of artists and art educators. Her broader teaching experience includes Boston University’s School of Visual Art and the University of Massachusetts Summer Studies Abroad Program in La Napoule\, France. Throughout her career\, she has presented sculpture demonstrations and lectures at academic institutions\, conferences\, and artist residencies in the Southeast and abroad.  \n\n\n\nInternational residencies have played an important role in her professional development\, including the University of Georgia’s Summer Program in Cortona\, Italy; Salem2Salem\, organized by Salem Art Works in Salem\, New York\, and Salem\, Baden-Württemberg\, Germany; and the Dietz Atelier Residency in Eberdingen\, Germany. Since 2014\, Wasserboehr has also been engaged in the evolving field of digital stone milling and carving through residencies with the Digital Stone Project\, where she serves as a board member. This work reflects an ongoing interest in the relationship between traditional sculptural processes and emerging technologies\, expanding the possibilities of working with stone.  \n\n\n\nHer sculpture has been exhibited regionally\, nationally\, and internationally. Selected venues include the Muscarelle Museum of Art in Williamsburg\, Virginia; the Fine Arts Museum of the South in Mobile\, Alabama; the Limner Gallery in Hudson\, New York; City Gallery in Lexington\, Kentucky; and the Phoenix Gallery in Chelsea\, New York. International exhibitions have included presentations at the Cathedral of San Christoforo in Barga\, Italy; Galleria Giovanni Bonelli in Pietrasanta\, Italy; the Historischen Bibliothek von Schloss Salem in Salem\, Germany; Enterprise Square Galleries in Alberta\, Canada; and the Shaanxi Provincial Museum of Fine Arts in Xi’an\, China. Her work has also been featured in Art of the State: Celebrating the Visual Art of North Carolina\, published by UNC Press\, and she is included in Virginia Watson Jones’s Contemporary American Women Sculptors.  \n\n\n\nWith The Cadence of Form\, Wasserboehr’s sculptures offer an opportunity to experience the enduring relevance of formalist sculpture through a practice that bridges modernist thought\, architectural structure\, material investigation\, and the expressive potential of the human form. Her work demonstrates a sustained commitment to understanding how sculptural elements interact\, how space becomes an active component of composition\, and how material itself informs the visual experience.  \n\n\n\nWe are honored to present Pat Wasserboehr’s work here in North Carolina\, a state where her artistic practice and educational leadership have contributed to the development of its creative community. The Cadence of Form celebrates not only her substantial artistic legacy but also her continuing exploration of the possibilities of contemporary sculpture.  \n\n\n\nExhibition Information\n\n\n\nThe Cadence of Form Pat Wasserboehr Gatewood Gallery\, UNCG October 29 – December 4\, 2026\, hours 9-4 pm\, M-F Greensboro\, North Carolina Contact: Gallery Director\, Professor Mariam Aziza Stephan\, mastepha@uncg.edu
