Keenly interested in the history of the piano\, he contributes frequently to conferences\, festivals\, and concert series. He is a past president of the Southeastern Historical Keyboard Society and a Trustee of the Westfield Center for Historical Keyboard Studies\, for whose International Fortepiano Competition he served as a juror. \nAs Covington Distinguished Professor of Music in the UNC Greensboro School of Music\, Willis teaches performance on instruments ranging from harpsichord to modern piano. He directed the biennial UNCG Focus on Piano Literature for over a decade and recently inaugurated a student Historical Performance Consort. For the Albany\, Bridge\, Claves\, Centaur\, and CRI labels he has recorded solo and ensemble music of three centuries on pianos linked historically to the chosen repertoire. His recording of Op. 106 for the first complete Beethoven sonata cycle on period instruments was hailed by The New York Times as “a ‘Hammerklavier’ of rare stature.” \nWillis received the D.M.A. in Historical Performance from Cornell University\, where he studied fortepiano with Malcolm Bilson\, the M.M. in Accompanying and Chamber Music from Temple University under George Sementovsky and Lambert Orkis\, and the B.M. in Piano from The Curtis Institute of Music\, where his mentor was Mieczyslaw Horszowski. \n\nThe vibrant UNCG Orchestra program has long been recognized for performance excellence\, adventurous programming\, and high artistic standards. His first musical experiences were hearing the fiery gospel music his parents sang in church. While attending the University of North Florida on a music scholarship\, he won the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Trumpet competition. In 1991 Printup’s life changed when he met his mentor\, the great pianist Marcus Roberts who introduced him to Wynton Marsalis\, which led to Printup’s induction into the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in 1993. Printup has recorded with Betty Carter\, Dianne Reeves\, Eric Reed\, Madeline Peyroux\, Ted Nash\, Cyrus Chestnut\, Wycliffe Gordon\, and Roberts\, among others. He would later discover jazz as a senior in high school. \nMarcus attended Georgia State University\, then transferred to the University of North Florida on a music scholarship. It was during his studies at UNF that he competed and won the prestigious International Trumpet Guild Jazz Trumpet Competition. \nIn 1991\, Mr. Printup’s life would change when he met his mentor and friend-to-be\, the incomparable pianist Marcus Roberts. Mr. Roberts introduced him to world renowned trumpeter\, Wynton Marsalis which in time led to the invitation to join the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in 1993. Marcus has been a member ever since. \nAmong many others\, Mr. Printup has performed/recorded with Betty Carter (an inductee into Ms. Carter’s first Jazz Ahead class in 1994)\, Dianne Reeves\, Eric Reed\, Cyrus Chestnut\, Wycliffe Gordon\, and Marcus Roberts. \nMr. Printup has led multiple recordings on several major record jazz labels: \n\nBlue Note Records Song for the Beautiful Woman\, Unveiled\, Hub Songs\nNagel Heyer Records The New Boogaloo\nSteeplechase Records Peace In The Abstract\, Bird of Paradise\, London Lullaby\, Ballads All Night\, A Time for Love\, Homage\, Desire\, Lost\, and his latest Young Bloods.\n\nMr. Printup continues to be in demand nationally and abroad as a facilitator/educator for clinics and masterclasses. Through her signature project Gather Hear Tour\, Miki is traveling the country state-by-state with a piano in a van to perform in community gathering spaces instead of concert halls. The mission is to connect with Americans across socioeconomic and political boundaries in this deeply divided country through music. Miki has given more than 70 free concerts in Alaska\, West Virginia\, Massachusetts\, Utah\, and Louisiana\, and has directed films about her tours which have screened at film festivals. When not trucking around with her own piano\, Miki enjoys a career of solo and chamber music\, with a special affinity for contemporary music. Performers include undergraduates through masters and doctoral candidates in music performance and music education. Membership in the organization is highly competitive\, and all students are placed by audition. Members of the Symphony have achieved numerous individual honors including solo competition awards on regional and national levels\, music scholarships\, undergraduate teaching fellowships\, graduate assistantships and fellowships\, and membership in honors ensembles. \nThe UNCG Symphony Orchestra periodically tours the state and region\, and has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington\, DC. Fanfare magazine hails her as “a performer of considerable skill\, with an unfailingly lovely sound\, abundant technical ability\, and a special gift for turning notes into poetry.” She has performed recital tours throughout the United States\, Europe\, Asia\, and South America. \nDr. Courtney Miller’s 2019 album\, Portuguese Perspectives\, spotlights world premiere recordings by Portuguese composers\, including several new commissions by Miller. This album and her 2015 release\, Modern Fairy Tales\, are available on all streaming platforms. American Record Guide praises her “seamless consistency in the various registers of the oboe…and sensitive phrasing and articulation.” This summer in Thailand\, she will perform works from her newest album\, Hans Gál: Works for Viola\, Piano\, Violin\, and Oboe. \nAn experienced orchestral musician\, Miller also performs frequently with orchestras throughout the United States\, most recently with the Chicago Symphony and Orchestra Iowa. In addition\, she has a flair for interdisciplinary work. She has collaborated with hip-hop dancer Ernest Phillips\, belly dancer Janelle Issis\, and choreographer Kristin Marrs. Perhaps her most daring collaboration yet is Psionic\, a work that explores interactive movement data between oboist and computer through a live stream of EEG data. \nBefore joining the UNCG faculty\, Dr. Miller was Associate Professor of Oboe at the University of Iowa. In January 2022\, Laurent Estoppey joined the quartet on alto saxophone. The RCSQ takes its name from the area’s luscious red soil. The Quartet presents a varied repertoire from classical to jazz to new music to tango\, featuring music by composers such as Chen Yi\, Ben Johnston\, James Paul Sain\, György Ligeti\, Guillermo Lago\, Francis Poulenc\, Alejandro Rutty\, Steve Reich\, Mark Engebretson\, David Maslanka\, Martin Bresnick\, Burton Beerman\, and Gavin Bryars. \n\n\nLindsay Kesselman is a two time GRAMMY-nominated soprano known for her warm\, collaborative spirit and investment in personal\, intimate communication with audiences. Prior to her appointment at UNCG\, Dr. Ycaza served as Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Northern Iowa. She has also served on the music faculties of Virginia Commonwealth University\, Virginia State University\, Longwood University\, and the University of Richmond. \nDr. Ycaza is a founding member of Calypsus Brass\, a brass quintet dedicated to performing new works and providing recordings for composers. Calypsus is committed to promoting the works of composers from historically marginalized groups and serves as an Ensemble-in-Residence for Rising Tide Music Press. Dr. Ycaza is active as an orchestral musician and currently serves as Principal Tuba of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony. Her recent solo performances have focused on music for low brass with electronic accompaniment\, music by women composers\, and her own transcriptions and arrangements for tuba and euphonium. She has performed as a soloist\, offered masterclasses\, and presented on the topic of mindfulness in music around the United States and in South America. \nDr. Ycaza holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Shenandoah University\, a Master of Music degree and Artist Diploma from Yale University\, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Ycaza is a Miraphone Tuba Artist. \n\nThe UNCG Wind Ensemble is a highly select concert band of fifty performers majoring in music at the UNCG School of Music. Performers in the current Wind Ensemble are drawn from sixteen states\, Slovenia\, and Hong Kong. The ensemble has enjoyed a distinguished record of performance throughout its history. In January 1992\, the UNCG Wind Ensemble performed “A Tribute to John Philip Sousa” to a capacity crowd of 2\,700 at the Concert Hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington\, D.C. Twice\, the Wind Ensemble earned critical acclaim from The Washington Post following concerts in the nation’s capital. The Wind Ensemble has performed throughout the eastern United States in recent years including the first-ever performance\, in 1987\, by a North Carolina collegiate ensemble in Lincoln Center\, New York City. The Wind Ensemble performed that same year in West Virginia\, Virginia\, Pennsylvania\, and Washington\, D.C. The Wind Ensemble has recorded nineteen commercially-available albums which have received widespread praise. \nIn 1985\, the Wind Ensemble performed a series of concerts with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer-conductor Karel Husa. In 1988\, the UNCG Wind Ensemble performed in New Orleans\, Louisiana by invitation of the College Band Directors National Association for the Southern Division convention. On a number of occasions\, the Wind Ensemble has commissioned and premiered works from leading band composers. In November of 1990\, the Wind Ensemble performed for the Southern Division of MENC convention. In February 1994\, the UNCG Wind Ensemble performed for a convention of the CBDNA and NBA in Williamsburg\, Virginia. In March 1999\, the Wind Ensemble performed for the national convention of the American Bandmasters Association in Melbourne\, Florida. In February 2000\, the Wind Ensemble performed for the CBDNA Southern Division Convention hosted at UNCG. Susan Fancher is a Lecturing Fellow at Duke University where she teaches saxophone and entrepreneurship\, and coaches chamber music.  She is an artist clinician for the Vandoren/DANSR and Selmer companies. \n\n\nGrowing up in the rich environment of New Orleans as the oldest son of pianist and educator Ellis Marsalis\, Branford Marsalis was drawn to music along with siblings Wynton\, Delfeayo\, and Jason.  His first instrument\, the clarinet\, gave way to the alto and then the tenor and soprano saxophones when the teenage Branford began working in local bands.  A growing fascination with jazz as he entered college gave him the basic tools to obtain his first major jobs\, with trumpet legend Clark Terry and alongside Wynton in Art Blakey’s legendary Jazz Messengers.  When the brothers left to form the Wynton Marsalis Quintet\, the world of uncompromising acoustic jazz was invigorated.  Branford formed his own quartet in 1986 and\, with a few minor interruptions in the early years\, has sustained the unit as his primary means of expression.  Known for the telepathic communication among its uncommonly consistent personnel\, its deep book of original music replete with expressive melodies and provocative forms\, and an unrivaled spirit in both live and recorded performances\, the Branford Marsalis Quartet has long been recognized as the standard to which other ensembles of its kind must be measured.  \nClassical music inhabits a growing portion of Branford’s musical universe. Making his first appearance with the New York Philharmonic in the summer of 2010\, Marsalis was invited to join them again as soloist in their 2010‐2011 concert series\, where he demonstrated his versatility and prowess\, bringing “a gracious poise and supple tone… and an insouciant swagger” (New York Times) to the repertoire. In 2013\, Branford served as Creative Director for the Ascent Series of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra\, which included two week-long residencies as well as several concerts with the CSO.   \nIn Fall of 2014\, Branford joined the highly-celebrated Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia in Marsalis “Well-Tempered” on a 20-city US tour\, performing Baroque masterpieces by Albinoni\, Bach\, Handel\, Vivaldi\, and others. In October 2015\, Branford took on the challenging Saxophone Concerto by composer John Adams\, performing the piece with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. In 2016\, he traveled to Germany for a concert with the Bayerische Staatsoper at the National Theatre in Munich\, performing an array of selections including Jacob Ter Veldhuis’ Tallahatchie Concerto\, and then returned to Asia twice more that year\, first for his debut collaboration with the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong\, followed by a trip to Kuala Lumpur where he performed two concerts with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra at the Petronas Twin Towers. In Fall 2016\, he returned to his home state of Louisiana where he was invited to be a guest soloist with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra\, presenting works by John Williams and Heitor Villa Lobos. \nAs for other public stages\, Branford spent a period touring with Sting\, collaborated with the Grateful Dead and Bruce Hornsby\, served as Musical Director of The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno\, and hosted National Public Radio’s widely syndicated Jazz Set.  The range and quality of these diverse activities established Branford Marsalis as a familiar presence beyond the worlds of jazz and classical music\, while his efforts to help heal and rebuild New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina mark him as an artist with an uncommonly effective social vision.  Together with Harry Connick\, Jr. and New Orleans Habitat for Humanity\, Branford conceived and helped to realize The Musicians’ Village\, a community in the Upper Ninth Ward that provides homes to the displaced families of musicians and other local residents.  At the heart of The Musicians’ Village stands the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music\, a community center dedicated to preserving the rich New Orleans musical legacy containing state-of-the art spaces for performance\, instruction\, and recording.  \nSome might gauge Branford Marsalis’s success by his numerous awards\, including three Grammys and his citation as a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts.  To Branford\, however\, these are only way stations along what continues to be one of the most fascinating and rewarding journeys in the world of music.\n\n\nInāra Zandmane is one of the leading collaborative pianists of North Carolina. She has performed with such artists as Dmitry Sitkovetsky\, Augustin Hadelich\, Ray Chen\, Sergei Antonov\, Yura Lee\, Martin Storey\, Paul Coletti\, Ian Clarke\, and Branford Marsalis\, in addition to regularly performing with Blue Mountain Ensemble and in duos with saxophonist Susan Fancher and violinist Fabián López. In 2008\, Ināra teamed up with Latvian violinist Vineta Sareika on a tour leading them to Boston\, Cleveland\, and Toronto\, before culminating in an invitation-only performance at the Kennedy Center arranged by the Latvian Embassy in the United States. In 2012\, Ināra stepped in on a short notice to perform with violinist Ray Chen at the Aspen Music Festival\, followed by a recital in Lima\, Peru. In 2014\, she was invited to the International Saxophone Symposium and Competition in Columbus\, Georgia to present a recital with Vincent David.  \nMs. Zandmane is frequently invited to serve as an official accompanist at national conferences and competitions\, among them the North American Saxophone Alliance conference and MTNA National competition since 2005. She is the accompanist in residence for the Southeastern Piano Festival that takes place in Columbia\, SC every June. Ināra Zandmane is the staff accompanist at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she performs with students and faculty more than fifty different programs per year.  \nInāra Zandmane’s solo recordings include the piano works by Maurice Ravel\, recorded together with her husband Vincent van Gelder\, and the complete piano sonatas by Alexander Scriabin. Ināra Zandmane has collaborated with leading Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks\, giving Latvian premieres of his piano works The Spring Music and Landscapes of the Burnt-out Earth and recording the latter one on the Conifer Classics label. Prior to her position at the UNCG\, she served on faculty at the University of Iowa\, Boston College in Massachusetts\, and Ashland University in Ohio. During the summers Dr. Miller performs and teaches at Lutheran Summer Music in Indiana and the UNCG Summer Music Camp.  \nA highly regarded performer and pedagogue\, Dr. Miller tours as a soloist\, chamber musician\, and teacher throughout the United States\, Europe\, Asia\, and South America. An experienced orchestral musician\, Miller has performed in many orchestras up-and-down the east coast of the United States from the Jacksonville Symphony in Florida to the Portland Symphony in Maine. She now performs regularly with Orchestra Iowa\, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra\, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony\, and the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. \nDr. Miller is a versatile artist devoted to performing established repertoire as well as new compositions and lesser-known works. Her 2019 album Portuguese Perspectives introduces a collection of world-premiere recordings for the oboe by Portuguese composers and includes several new commissions by Miller. This album and her 2015 release Modern Fairy Tales are readily available on iTunes\, Amazon\, and Spotify. American Record Guide praises her “seamless consistency in the various registers of the oboe…and sensitive phrasing and articulation.” Fanfare Magazine hails Courtney Miller as “a performer of considerable skill\, with an unfailingly lovely sound\, abundant technical ability\, and a special gift for turning notes into poetry.”   \nIn addition to collaborations within the field of music\, Dr Miller has a flair for interdisciplinary work. She has collaborated with hip-hop dancer Ernest “EKnock” Phillips; belly-dancer Janelle Issis; and most recently choreographer and dancer Kristin Marrs at University of Iowa. Since 2016\, Marrs and Miller have performed in many concerts featuring oboe and dancer and have toured together throughout the United States. Perhaps her most daring collaboration yet is Psionic\, which explores interactive movement data between oboist and computer through a live stream of EEG data with composer Christopher Jette; printmaker Terry Conrad; and digital media designer Daniel Fine.  \nDr. Miller has authored scholarly articles pertaining to the English horn’s role in the orchestra and Charles Loeffler’s Deux Rhapsodies for oboe\, viola and piano published respectively in the Double Reed Journal and the Journal of the American Viola Society. She has also presented recitals and papers at the College Music Society’s Northeast Regional Conference. Dr. Miller performs recitals regularly at the International Double Reed Society’s annual conferences. Before coming to UNC Greensboro\, she served on faculty at the University of Iowa in Iowa\, Boston College in Massachusetts\, and Ashland University in Ohio. \n\n\n\nA highly regarded performer and pedagogue\, Dr. Miller tours as a soloist\, chamber musician\, and teacher throughout the United States\, Europe\, Asia\, and South America. Her 2023 tour in Thailand promoted her newest album collaboration\, “Hans Gál: Works for Viola\, Piano\, Violin & Oboe\,” released in 2022 on Centaur Records. Also an experienced orchestral musician\, Miller has performed in many orchestras in the United States\, such as the Chicago Symphony\, Orchestra Iowa\, Quad Cities Symphony\, Jacksonville Symphony\, Portland Symphony\, Akron Symphony\, and the Cleveland Opera. She will perform with the North Carolina Opera in 2023-2024. \n\n\n\nDr. Miller is a versatile artist devoted to performing established repertoire\, new compositions\, and lesser-known works. Her 2019 album Portuguese Perspectives introduces a collection of world-premiere recordings for the oboe by Portuguese composers and includes several new commissions by Miller. This album and her 2015 release\, Modern Fairy Tales\, are available on iTunes\, Amazon\, and Spotify. American Record Guide praises her “seamless consistency in the various registers of the oboe…and sensitive phrasing and articulation.” Fanfare Magazine hails Courtney Miller as “a performer of considerable skill\, with an unfailingly lovely sound\, abundant technical ability\, and a special gift for turning notes into poetry.”   \n\n\n\nIn addition to collaborations within the field of music\, Dr. Miller has a flair for interdisciplinary work. She has collaborated with hip-hop dancer Ernest “EKnock” Phillips\, belly dancer Janelle Issis\, and most recently\, choreographer and dancer Kristin Marrs. Since 2016\, Marrs and Miller have performed in many concerts featuring oboe and dancer and have toured together throughout the United States. Perhaps her most daring collaboration yet is Psionic\, which explores interactive movement data between oboist and computer through a live stream of EEG data with composer Christopher Jette\, printmaker Terry Conrad\, and digital media designer Daniel Fine.  \n\n\n\nDr. Miller has authored articles published in the Double Reed Journal and the Journal of the American Viola Society. She has also presented recitals and papers at the College Music Society’s Northeast Regional Conference. Dr. Miller performs recitals regularly at the International Double Reed Society’s annual conferences. Paul has appeared as soloist\, chamber musician\, and jazz artist throughout the United States\, Canada\, Puerto Rico\, and the United Kingdom.  \n\n\n\nDr. Nolen appeared as concerto soloist at the 2012 World Saxophone Congress in Scotland with the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Ensemble\, where he premiered Dr. Roy Magnuson’s Concerto for Saxophone and Wind Ensemble. He has soloed with the San Francisco Wind Ensemble at the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles\, and the University of New Mexico Wind Ensemble at the Robb Symposium. In 2018\, he gave a consortium premiere of William Bolcom’s Concerto for Soprano Saxophone with the ISU Wind Symphony. Dr. Nolen has recorded two CD’s of Davis Maslanka’s music on Albany Records with ISU Wind Bands. They include a 2012 recording of David Maslanka’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensemble and a 2018 release\, entitled Saxophone Concertos: Maslanka/Magnuson\, with the premiere recording of David Maslanka’s Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Wind Ensemble.  \n\n\n\nDr. Nolen is also well known for his work with the award winning Iridium Quartet\, with whom he has traveled and performed across North American for ten years\, and recorded two CD’s of American music for saxophone quartet: Into Xylonia\, and Skylines\, both available on the Blue Griffin Record Label. Paul is a staunch advocate of new music and has commissioned works by composers such as William Bolcom\, Roy Magnuson\, Joshua Keeling\, David Kirkland Garner\, Peter Gilbert\, Peter Lieuwen\, Roy Magnuson\, Marcus Maroney\, David Maslanka\, Sonia Morales\, Karola Obermüller\, David Rakowski\, Ben Stonaker\, and Carl Schimmel. \n\n\n\nDr. Nolen performs regularly with the Iridium Quartet\, Peoria Symphony Orchestra\, and the Heartland Festival Orchestras. His pianism was described by Fanfare as “revelatory and a joy to listen to\,” possessing “ferocious intellect as well as technique.” He has performed in Carnegie Hall\, the Berlin Philharmonie\, the Wigmore Hall\, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall\, Edinburgh’s Queens Hall\, and many other venues across North America and Europe\, as well as in Japan\, Hong Kong\, and Taiwan. In 2022\, he gave a solo recital debut at Ravinia. As a concerto soloist\, his appearances have included the Sinfonie Orchester Berlin in Germany\, the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra\, Olympia Symphony Orchestra\, and New York Sinfonietta in the USA\, and the Scottish Sinfonia\, Edinburgh Philharmonic\, and Dundee Symphony Orchestra in the UK. During the 2018-19 season\, he was the first Artist in Residence with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra\, with which he performed concertos by Duke Ellington and Edward MacDowell\, among others.His solo CD of Fantasies and Rhapsodies by CPE Bach\, Schubert\, John McCabe\, and Dohnanyi was released in 2023 on Albany Records.
