SUMMARY:Make contact with your life | An MFA Thesis Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Make contact with your life\nAn MFA Thesis Exhibition\nMax Baynes\n\nOn View: April 11 – 15\, 2023\nReception: Friday\, April 14th\, 6-8PM\n\n  \nThis body of work is the beginning of a new connection to place and self. My sculpture has always drawn heavily from Modernism\, and now I am starting to filter that influence through a lens that feels more directly related to my being. As I am constructing these works\, I feel I am revealing myself to myself in a deeper way. My rural upbringing in Bethany\, North Carolina and the resonance of that place and the objects that rest throughout that land are cornerstones of what informs my sculptural decisions. Many materials and objects from that place have made their way into the works in this exhibition. A quasi-pastoral aesthetic that gives way to entropy and decay is an important facet of the imagery I make. I see that decay as a potentially uplifting thing\, however\, because I am curious about the engagement with nature. Seeing the natural world as an embodied system in dialogue with our stuff is what I am working towards. I am building my identity through a mindful awareness of this dialogue that simultaneously digs for the poetry in a sometimes chaotic human experience. \nTo learn more about the artist\, visit our website here \n  \nGreensboro Project Space Weekly Gallery Hours: \nTuesday – Friday\, 12 -5 PM \nSaturday\, 2-5PM

SUMMARY:All Jokes Aside | An MFA Thesis Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:All Jokes Aside\nAn MFA Thesis Exhibition\nConner Calhoun\n\nOn View: April 4 –  8\, 2023\nReception: Thursday\, April 6th\, 6-8PM \nNoise Performance: Friday\, April 7th\, *7:30PM\nFeaturing sounds by: Chanelle Allesandre\, Julia Santoli\, Spookstina | Doors open at 6:30pm \n  \nThe exhibition spans work from the past two years during my run as a Grad Student at UNCG\, with a core focus on unpacking my relationship between drawing and painting\, and building bridges between the two. Filled with whimsical narratives and symbolic rigor\, the work near the end of my Grad School experience started to zero in on working within an ever shifting\, cubular space that referenced my direct surroundings\, and a figure or character that resembled myself and embodied the emotional turbulence of a post-sobriety wake (a character that I have come to call hodgepodge). Pushing the figure beyond its own physical limits\, setting them out on symbolic tasks\, or contorting them into labyrinthine knots\, ambiguous narratives unfurl\, plumeing the murky psychological landscapes like recovery\, grief\, melancholia\, and anxiety with the over currents of humor and irreverence as a retainer of hope. \nTo learn more about the artist\, visit our website here \n  \n*Greensboro Project Space Weekly Gallery Hours: \nTuesday – Friday\, 12 -5 PM \nSaturday\, 2-5PM \n*Note: Greensboro Project Space will be closed during regular hours on Friday\, April 7th due to UNCG Spring Holiday

SUMMARY:I Got Five On It
DESCRIPTION:I Got Five On It celebrates the fifth year of The Clarice Young Project paying tribute to Black History Month at Greensboro Project Space. Through Black dance and culture this year’s theme yields itself to reflection. \nReflection on the past years.\nReflection on influences concealed within our personal history.\nReflection on the perception and idea of what it means to be/feel home. \nMay all of these reflections create an intentional amount of space for the hope we know that lies ahead.

SUMMARY:Assemblage
DESCRIPTION:Assemblage\nA UNCG Student Installation Show\nOn View: January 17 – 28\, 2023\n*Reception: Friday\, January 20th\, 6-8PM\n*with a live\, virtual interactive installation by\nRoni Baker\, Sydney Hall\, Jocelyn Marencik\, and Triston Mullis\n  \nAssemblage acts as a gathering place for a collection of seven distinct artists whose artistic processes and exploratory themes interconnect in a symbiotic way\, forming a holistic aesthetic idea – like several unlike objects that fit together as one\, an assemblage. The works in the show allow one to look through a kaleidoscope that represent the webs that weave us all together – a representative patchwork of grief\, trauma\, violence\, rebirth\, memory\, mystery\, knowledge\, play\, and the hope that exists through collective support. Featuring UNCG undergraduate students\, Assemblage invites an art experience through both physical and digital/interactive installation works. The artists investigate concepts through visual\, digital\, and/or textile manipulations in hopes to articulate the interconnectedness of unrelated ideas; we are all more alike than it seems.  \n  \nFeaturing UNCG Student Artists:\nMelanie Antle \nPeter Deligdisch \nBrenda Fonseca- Martinez \nViveka Krumm Castaneda \nTriston Mullis \nDaniel Rogers \nMia Zabala \n  \nTo learn more about the individual artists\, visit our website here \n\nGreensboro Project Space Weekly Gallery Hours: \nTuesday – Friday\, 12 -5 PM \nSaturday\, 2-5PM
