SUMMARY:Assemblage
DESCRIPTION:Assemblage\nA UNCG Student Installation Show\nOn View: January 17 – 28\, 2023\n*Reception: Friday\, January 20th\, 6-8PM\n*with a live\, virtual interactive installation by\nRoni Baker\, Sydney Hall\, Jocelyn Marencik\, and Triston Mullis\n  \nAssemblage acts as a gathering place for a collection of seven distinct artists whose artistic processes and exploratory themes interconnect in a symbiotic way\, forming a holistic aesthetic idea – like several unlike objects that fit together as one\, an assemblage. The works in the show allow one to look through a kaleidoscope that represent the webs that weave us all together – a representative patchwork of grief\, trauma\, violence\, rebirth\, memory\, mystery\, knowledge\, play\, and the hope that exists through collective support. Featuring UNCG undergraduate students\, Assemblage invites an art experience through both physical and digital/interactive installation works. The artists investigate concepts through visual\, digital\, and/or textile manipulations in hopes to articulate the interconnectedness of unrelated ideas; we are all more alike than it seems.  \n  \nFeaturing UNCG Student Artists:\nMelanie Antle \nPeter Deligdisch \nBrenda Fonseca- Martinez \nViveka Krumm Castaneda \nTriston Mullis \nDaniel Rogers \nMia Zabala \n  \nTo learn more about the individual artists\, visit our website here \n\nGreensboro Project Space Weekly Gallery Hours: \nTuesday – Friday\, 12 -5 PM \nSaturday\, 2-5PM

SUMMARY:Indigo Girls with the Greensboro Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Twenty years after they began releasing records as the Indigo Girls\, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have politely declined the opportunity to slow down with age. With a legacy of releases and countless U.S. and international tours behind them\, the Indigo Girls have forged their own way in the music business. Selling over 14 million records\, they are still going strong. Amy & Emily are the only duo with top 40 titles on the Billboard 200 in the ’80s\, ’90s\, ’00s and ’10s. \n\n\n\nIn 2012\, Saliers and her Indigo Girls partner\, Amy Ray\, embarked on a bold new chapter\, collaborating with a pair of orchestrators to prepare larger-than-life arrangements of their songs to perform with symphonies around the country. The duo found an elusive sonic sweet spot with the project\, creating a seamless blend of folk\, rock\, pop\, and classical that elevated their songs to new heights without scarifying any of the emotional intimacy and honesty that have defined their music for decades. Now\, after more than 50 performances with symphonies across America\, the experience has finally been captured in all its grandeur on the band’s stunning new album\, Indigo Girls Live With The University of Colorado Symphony Orchestra. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nOrchestra/Mezz\nBalconies\n\n\nUNCG Students\n$5\n$5\n\n\nNon-UNCG Students\n$10\n$10\n\n\nSingle\n$75\n$70\n\n\nSeniors/Military\nFaculty/Staff/Retirees\n$65\n$60\n\n\nPurchase Tickets\n* Tickets to CVPA and UCLS events are sold exclusively through our box office locations and ETix website\, and nowhere else. Tickets purchased through third-party vendors cannot be honored. \n\n\n\n \nThe power of unity\, both in music and in life\, has been an Indigo Girls calling card ever since they burst into the spotlight with their 1989 self-titled breakout album. Since then\, the band has racked up a slew of Gold and Platinum records\, taken home a coveted GRAMMY® Award\, and earned the respect of high profile peers and collaborated from Michael Stipe to Joan Baez. NPR’s Mountain Stage called the group “one of the finest folk duos of all time” while Rolling Stone said “they personify what happens when two distinct sensibilities\, voices\, and worldviews come together to create something transcendentally its own.” \nThe duo has balanced their long\, successful musical career by supporting numerous social causes–the Indigo Girls don’t just talk the talk; they walk the walk. Both on and off the stage\, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray have secured their spot as one of the most legendary musical acts of this generation. \n\nIn addition to public presentations\, every artist in the UCLS series does important work with UNCG students\, such as holding masterclasses and seminars\, often just hours before performing on stage. Thanks to The Cemala Foundation\, some of these artists also work with K-12 students in the Guilford County Schools.

Fiddlesticks\nThe Carolina Coffee Beans\nClay and the Alibi’s\nMaroon 4\nRockdove String Band\nThe Tree Muggers \n\n\n\n\n\n \nThe UNCG Old Time Ensemble performs American folk music\, focusing on the string band traditions of the North Carolina Piedmont and Southern Appalachia. The Old Time Ensemble’s mission is to give students an opportunity to learn songs and tunes that have been part of North Carolina’s culture for generations. \nMembers of the Old Time Ensemble include students and faculty members spanning a broad range of musical backgrounds\, although for many students\, this is their first experience playing folk music. Old Time Ensemble is based on the idea that oral traditions should be part of every musician’s education\, so the group learns all its music by ear\, through careful listening and repetition\, the way traditional American music has been learned for centuries. \n\n \n\n\n\nAudience Note\nTickets are required to attend any concert or recital in person.
