He earned his Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University. A former member of the Toledo and Detroit Symphony Orchestras\, Masarie joined UNCG’s School of Music in 1972. He was a founding member of the Market Street Brass and the EastWind Quintet. He played principal horn as a member of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and served as auxiliary horn and substituted with the Roanoke\, Lynchburg\, Winston-Salem\, Charlotte\, and North Carolina Symphonies. Professor Masarie spent eighteen summers at the Brevard Music Center teaching\, coaching\, and playing principal horn in the Festival Orchestra. Masarie was a frequent performer on the natural horn\, the valveless predecessor to the modern horn\, and was an educational specialist for United Musical Instruments\, maker of Conn horns. Many of these scenes are fleeting moments throughout the installation and maintenance team’s everyday work\, where tools and supplies lay in space in a way that makes me immediately think of it as minimalist\, abstract sculpture. The arrangements aren’t meant to be art\, but the people behind them are true craftsmen\, many with their own creative practices as well. I wonder if by recreating these scenes and calling them art\, we may be able to more adequately elevate the work of those that are so necessary for exhibitions to exist\, but so often go unseen. \nMore About Grace \nGrace Clark is a visual and social practice artist whose work is centered in a deeply diaristic narrative of metabolizing love\, loss\, and labor. She reflects upon these themes within her experiences as a museum worker\, educator\, mediator\, patient\, and daughter to contemplate ways of living\, feeling\, and wishful thinking.
