She retired in 2022 after more than thirty years as voice professor at UNCG. She was formerly the primary voice teacher for the National Opera Company. \nA versatile soprano\, Carla LeFevre’s solo appearances include over fifty performances of oratorios ranging from the Bach passions to the Verdi Requiem\, and leading opera roles spanning the styles of Poppea in Handel’s Agrippina and the Governess in Britten’s Turn of the Screw. Her strength as a musician is notably demonstrated in her performances of contemporary music such as Schönberg’s highly challenging Pierrot Lunaire\, and she enjoys engaging audiences by adapting her vocal style to the Broadway genre. Dr. LeFevre has been heard in recital at various universities and concert series throughout the United States\, and was selected as national winner of the Gertrude Fogelson Cultural and Creative Arts Vocal Competition. She was also one of two national finalists in the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Competition and a finalist in the National Opera Association Vocal Competition. \nStudents of Dr. LeFevre have distinguished themselves as Regional and National Grand Finalists in the Metropolitan Opera auditions\, as well as first-place winners of the Orpheus Vocal Competition\, and National NATS competitions. They have been apprentice artists for professional opera companies across the country\, such as San Francisco\, Wolf Trap\, Glimmerglass\, Pittsburgh\, Chautauqua\, Sarasota\, Central City\, Des Moines\, Saratoga\, Opera North and others. \nAn active clinician\, Dr. LeFevre has presented voice pedagogy workshops for the NATS National Conference\, Pan-European Voice Conference\, Voice Foundation Symposium and other organizations\, as well as master classes for dozens of universities across the United States\, including Florida State University\, Boston University\, Ohio State University\, Michigan State University\, University of Iowa\, etc. To date\, Dr. LeFevre has published three articles in the pedagogy column of the NATS Journal of Singing\, and her 30+ years of experience as a diction instructor recently led to her development and publication of Diction Study Cards. Patrons must sit in their assigned seat.\n\n\n\nFace Coverings\nFace coverings that cover the nose and mouth are strongly encouraged\, but not required\, while inside the performance hall. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nThe 1841 Bösendorfer grand piano\nThe 1841 Bösendorfer grand piano represents the piano builder’s craft in the era when Chopin\, Mendelssohn\, Schumann\, and Liszt were at the height of their powers. Restored by Edward Swenson of Trumansburg\, New York\, it is an early example of the work of the Viennese builder Ignaz Bösendorfer (1794-1859)\, whose firm\, founded in 1828\, still makes some of the world’s finest pianos. An expanded and strengthened descendent of the Classical-era fortepianos played by Mozart and Haydn\, it is similar to the pianos Beethoven knew during his later years. It has a range of six and a half octaves with 81 keys of ivory and ebony\, leather-covered hammers attached directly to the keys\, parallel stringing throughout the scale\, and pedals for lifting the dampers and shifting the keyboard (una corda). The case\, veneered in ash\, supports the tension of the strings without the assistance of an iron plate. The sound delivers clarity\, variety of color\, and the sweetness of tone for which Bösendorfer was particularly esteemed. \nAndrew Willis\, fortepiano\nPianist Andrew Willis explores the historical development of keyboard instruments and their performance practice\, maintaining a commitment to the study\, performance\, and teaching of the widest possible range of repertoire. Keenly interested in the history of the piano\, he contributes frequently to conferences\, festivals\, and concert series. He has served as president of the Southeastern Historical Keyboard Society and as a Trustee of the Westfield Center for Historical Keyboard Studies. As Covington Distinguished Professor of Music in the UNC Greensboro School of Music\, Willis teaches performance on instruments ranging from harpsichord to modern piano. He directed the biennial UNCG Focus on Piano Literature for over a decade and recently inaugurated a student Historical Performance Consort. For the Albany\, Bridge\, Claves\, Centaur\, and CRI labels he has recorded solo and ensemble music of three centuries on pianos linked historically to the chosen repertoire. Willis received the DMA in Historical Performance from Cornell University\, where he studied fortepiano with\nMalcolm Bilson\, the MM in Accompanying and Chamber Music from Temple University under George Sementovsky and Lambert Orkis\, and the BM in Piano from The Curtis Institute of Music\, where his mentor was Mieczyslaw Horszowski. \nRobert Bracey\, tenor\nRobert Bracey has performed throughout the United States and made appearances in Canada\, Russia\, Europe\, India\, and Japan. He was awarded first place in the Oratorio Society of New York’s Annual International Solo Competition at Carnegie Hall. He returned to Carnegie Hall for performances of Handel: Messiah. He is currently Professor of Voice and Chair of the Voice Area at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. \nNicholas DiEugenio\, violin\nPraised for the “rapturous poetry” in his playing (American Record Guide) and as an “excellent” and “evocative” violinist (New York Times)\, Nicholas DiEugenio leads a versatile performing life as a chamber musician\, leader\, and soloist in music ranging from early baroque to current commissions. He performs in venues such as Glinka Hall in St. Petersburg\, Trinity Wall St.\, Freiburg’s Ensemblehaus\, and Weill Recital Hall. Together with pianist and duo partner Mimi Solomon\, Nicholas created the project “Unraveling Beethoven\,” a cycle of all ten violin sonatas combined with response works from composers Tonia Ko\, Jesse Jones\, Robert Honstein\, D.K. Garner\, and Allen Anderson. The award-winning album Unraveling Beethoven was released in 2018 by New Focus Recordings. Other featured recordings include the complete Violin Sonatas of Robert Schumann (Musica Omnia) as well as a tribute to Pulitzer prizewinner Steven Stucky (New Focus). Nicholas is a core member of The Sebastians as well as Associate Professor of Music at UNC Chapel Hill. \nBrent Wissick\, cello\nBrent Wissick is Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he as taught teaches cello and early music ensembles since 1982. His career includes performances with Ensemble Chanterelle\, Atlanta Baroque Orchestra\, Altlanta Symphony\, Dallas Bach Society Folger Consort\, Concert Royal\, Smithsonian Consort of Viols\, Boston Early Music Festival and American Bach Soloists as well as Collegio di Musica Sacra in Poland. He was an NEH Fellow at Harvard in Lewis Lockwood’s Beethoven Quartet Seminar\, and later did research on these works in Germany and Poland. A former student of John Hsu at Cornell University\, he has performed\, taught and adjudicated at at many of the important schools\, workshops and festivals in North America\, Australia\, Europe and Asia including 4 summers in Japan and China. His recording of Sonatas and Cantatas by Bononcini was released by Centaur and his online video article about them has been published by the Journal of Seventeenth-Century Music. He has also recorded for Albany\, Titanic\, Dux\, Radio-Bremen\, Koch International\, 3 Grammy nominated; and recorded the Chopin Cello Music on period instruments with Andrew Willis Currently\, he is Past President of the Viola Gamba Society of America\, having served as President from 2000 through 2004\, chair of the 2007 Pan-Pacific Gamba Gathering\, and a board member since 1986. The society recently granted him Lifetime Membership in 2020. Patrons must sit in their assigned seat.\n\n\n\nFace Coverings\nFace coverings that cover the nose and mouth are strongly encouraged\, but not required\, while inside the performance hall. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nFlutist and pedagogue\, Erika Boysen\, is a leading innovator within interdisciplinary performance. Particularly known for her uniquely evocative collaborations including movement\, singing and acting\, Boysen uses these forms of creative expression both in performance and as a method for teaching artistic concepts. For her demonstrative expertise and virtuosic performance\, she has been invited to Asia\, Australia\, Central America\, Europe\, and to over a dozen US states to perform in recitals\, teach master classes\, and lead creative workshops. \nActive on all fronts\, recent highlights include: solo and chamber performances in Shanghai\, China\, guest artist appearances at the Flutes by the Sea Workshop in California\, and Anatomy of Sound Workshop in Michigan. Additionally\, Boysen recently released the video mobile app\, Moving Sound\, that features newly commissioned solo works for the singing\, speaking\, moving flutist by composers: David Biedenbender\, Mark Engebretson\, and Jane Rigler. The app\, available for download on apple and android devices\, includes a moving score\, interviews with composers and behind-the-scenes footage from the recording process. \nWhenever possible\, Dr. Boysen believes in combining the power of music\, movement\, and theater to create. To this end\, she has performed theatrically inclined work by composer Kate Soper\, fully choreographed interpretations of existing work from composers such as Toru Takemitsu\, and entirely new works from composers such as Jane Rigler. In combination with performances in multiple years of the National Flute Association Convention\, these highlights have earned Boysen international recognition\, including features on The Flute View and Flute Talk and requests to conduct workshops and masterclasses in universities and festivals across the world. \nAs a “seated” performer\, Erika also takes the stage frequently as a chamber musician. Though she regularly performs in a number of chamber ensembles\, most decorated has been her role in the Four Corners Ensemble (4CE)\, a sextet of flute\, clarinet\, violin\, viola\, cello and piano dedicated to international collaboration. Recent 4CE performances have included recitals in Carnegie Hall\, Shanghai Conservatory\, Qingdao University of Science and Technology\, and at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland\, where Boysen premiered flute concerto The Dryad by composer Shuying Li. Other previous and forthcoming performances with chamber groups include the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble\, Eighth Blackbird\, Seen/Heard Trio\, and COLLAPSS. \nIn addition to her primary position as Assistant Professor of Flute at UNCG\, Boysen has had other faculty positions of note. She served on the faculty of Interlochen’s Arts Camp and Arts Academy as well as the Atlantic Music Festival in Maine. \nA native of Iowa\, Erika Boysen is based in Greensboro\, North Carolina. She received her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan\, where her dissertation recitals featured collaborations with spoken word\, dance\, and visual art. Further education comes from the New England Conservatory and University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
