DESCRIPTION:The Spartan Jazz Collective\, UNCG’s premier faculty-student collaborative ensemble\, concludes the Jazz Studies program’s centennial celebration of John Coltrane with a dynamic performance spanning the full breadth of the jazz icon’s career\, from his early recordings as a leader to the groundbreaking works of the mid-1960s. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program at UNCG is a unique and innovative undergraduate jazz program designed to emulate the traditional process of learning jazz\, through a combination of mentorship\, real-world playing experiences\, and a communal approach to learning. As pioneers for the unique instrumentation\, they have commissioned over seventy works and have received grants from The Alice M. Ditson Fund\, Chamber Music America\, FROMM Foundation\, Foundation for Contemporary Arts\, Brooklyn Arts Council\, and Queens Arts Council to produce their concerts in New York City and the US. They have been guest performers and resident artists at Appalachian State University (2026)\, Converse University (2026)\, Emory University (2025)\, University of Florida (2025\, 2021)\, University of North Carolina-Wilmington (2025)\, Columbus State University (2025)\, Princeton University (2024)\, and UMASS-Amherst (2020).
