The quaint theaters illuminated by streetlamp where first kisses are given and innumerable cups of coffee are consumed. Stoop Stories presents a collection of sculpture\, prints\, and tall tales examining that brackish water between public and private space. An exhibit reflecting on Topher and Patrick’s experiences working and traveling together from creaky southern porches to the marble steps of Venetian cathedrals. \n\n\n\nMore About Patrick and Topher \n\n\n\nPatrick Healy  \n\n\n\nAs a child of working class parents growing up in the suburbs of New York\, I experienced the locality of stoop-side congregation and bodega counter community\, coupled with the far reaching global network of the City and cable television. This micro/macro upbringing compelled me to parse and render these idiosyncratic/ubiquitous situations through my artistic endeavors. Currently working with fabricated steel and other industrial materials\, my sculpture aims to appropriate and subvert the banality of the everyday in order to bring a heightened awareness to its potential for absurdity\, whimsy\, and contemplation. I received my BFA at SUNY Alfred in 2009\, and remained in Upstate New York for nearly a decade\, allowing country living to permeate my city exterior. He received his MFA from UNC-Greensboro and currently teaches at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and Cape Fear Community College. His personal artwork ranges the gambit of traditional printmaking\, alternative print methods and experimental paper processes. He has helped coordinate numerous large format steam roller woodcut events across North Carolina as well as smaller workshops around the region as well. Embodying and practicing with community\, artists will activate the Greensboro Project Space galleries\, creating public work daily for the week-long in-process exhibition. SUMMARY:Clarence Morgan
DESCRIPTION:Falk Visiting Artist Talk: Clarence Morgan\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClarence “Morgan” Morgan is an American abstract painter whose work spans painting\, drawing\, printmaking\, and an ongoing reflective writing practice. Rooted in gesture\, intuition\, and process\, his work explores shifting relationships between order and improvisation. Through pattern\, repetition\, and fluid mark-making\, Morgan examines perceptual experience and the ways visual systems echo larger questions of time\, space\, and the natural and cosmic world.  \n\n\n\nMorgan’s paintings\, drawings\, and prints have been exhibited nationally and internationally\, with works represented in numerous public and private collections including the Cleveland Museum of Art\, the Walker Art Center\, the Minneapolis Institute of Art\, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts\, and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum. His recent and current representation includes GF Contemporary (Santa Fe) and Todd Bockley Gallery (Minneapolis).  \n\n\n\nHe has produced editions at Tamarind Institute (Albuquerque)\, Highpoint Center for Printmaking (Minneapolis)\, Brandywine Workshop (Philadelphia)\, and the Patton Printmaking Studio at Anderson Ranch Arts Center (Snowmass\,   \n\n\n\nColorado). Morgan has received major fellowships from the Bush Foundation\, Jerome Foundation\, McKnight Foundation\, and the Minnesota State Arts Board\, among others.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2025 Morgan was selected as an Invited Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome\, a residency that extends his ongoing investigations into abstraction\, phenomenology\, cosmology\, and the embodied experience of mark-making. His parallel writing practice—composed of notes\, essays\, and studio reflections—further articulates the metaphysical and perceptual concerns that inform his visual work.  \n\n\n\nMorgan has held teaching and visiting artist appointments at numerous institutions including Yale University\, Cooper Union\, Cranbrook Academy of Art\, Stanford University\, and the University of Minnesota\, where he served as Department Chair from 2004 to 2010 and is currently Head of Drawing/Painting. He lives and works in Chicago.  \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn addition to public presentations\, artists in the UCLS series have important interactions with UNCG students\, such as holding masterclasses\, talkback sessions\, and seminars\, often just hours before performing on stage. Thanks to a grant from The Cemala Foundation\, some of these artists also work with K-12 students in the Guilford County Schools.

Elizabeth (EJ) Trefney’s work dives into rushing waters and swims among smooth currents\, weaving images of the natural world into past and present\, distant and familiar. Objects and specimens foreground Adrianne Huang’s work\, which prefers to embark on a riverside search\, turning over rocks and peering into crevices. Notes from downstream considers both artists’ approaches to questions of observation\, collection\, and coexistence in an exhibition of drawings\, prints\, and zines. Elizabeth’s Dawn Chorus and Adrianne’s catalog weave together depictions of material scenes and entities to convey the intangible resilience\, magnetism\, and intimacy of nature. Looking to ancestral practices and peculiar objects\, these projects engage in a dialogue with the natural world through careful depictions of earth\, sea\, sky\, and heritage.  \n\n\n\nDawn Chorus tells stories of environmental resilience through a series of cyanotype prints\, graphite drawings\, and handmade wooden frames. These artworks bear witness to nature’s gentleness alongside its unforgiving strength in wake of climate change. From ancestral homelands in Armenia to the Haw River shoreline in Elizabeth’s backyard\, these artworks serve as a collection of regional climate portraits. \n\n\n\nA series of ink drawings and handmade zines that resemble cabinets of curiosity\, catalog considers the acts of collecting and observing natural and manmade objects. The series works to unpack\, and at times remake\, structures of categorization by purposefully presenting items in abstractly connected groups\, without any discernibly meaningful organization or hierarchy within. Do we seek order by nature\, or because we’ve created a world that necessitates it? \n\n\n\nMore About the Artists \n\n\n\nAdrianne Huang \n\n\n\nAdrianne Huang works across painting\, drawing\, and book arts to navigate ambiguity and complex emotional states. With an educational background in Information Science\, she is interested in the dissonance between definitive answers and nature’s fundamental uncertainty and impermanence. Making and collecting images is one way of attempting to establish permanence and hold the unattainable\, but why are we drawn to preservation and ideas of eternity? How do we know to treasure things before they’re gone\, or when to let them go after? An exploration of how and why we make sense of objects and experiences\, and in doing so\, establish a boundary between rational and arbitrary\, emerges as an undercurrent in her work and refracts in many directions. Connections between unexpected subjects and settings evoke tension and ambiguity\, like scenes from a vivid\, constantly shifting dream. Objects of personal fascination – tropical plants\, fish\, the Chinese zodiac\, and human figures – become stand-ins for comfort\, regret\, and the elasticity of time. To tell these stories\, she creates narrative-based artworks using cyanotype\, graphite drawing\, laser-etching\, or\, most commonly\, a combination of these mediums. \n\n\n\nThe symbols in the foreground of EJ’s artworks are sourced from family & public archives or hikes in the North Carolina woods. As a public health & social services professional\, science and caregiving are inevitably at the core of her artwork. The act of creating is tied deeply to research: How can Armenian oral tradition help us tackle today’s (un)natural disasters? How can the geology of Haw River rocks teach us about balance and evolution? \n\n\n\nWhile using familial Armenian handwriting or ancient rocks from my Haw River backyard may seem like an act of perpetual care to our ancestors\, EJ’s goal is to create a meeting place in the present.
