SUMMARY:Jazz Ensemble II
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Ensemble II celebrates trumpeter Kenny Dorham! Dorham’s subtle improvisational voice and compositional prowess loomed large over American music in the 1950s-60s; even the praise-cautious Miles Davis was an unashamed admirer of his Texas-born trumpet peer. Jazz Ensemble II brings a program of all-new\, world-premiere big band arrangements of Dorham’s legendary compositions to The Crown on November 7 in celebration of Dorham’s centennial year. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program at UNCG is a unique and innovative undergraduate jazz program designed to emulate the traditional process of learning jazz\, through a combination of mentorship\, real-world playing experiences\, and a communal approach to learning.
