Janet Lilly, a former principal dancer and teacher with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company joined UNCG in 2011 as the Director of the School of Dance, after 15 years at the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin, where she was instrumental in creating a low-residence MFA program for returning dance professionals. In August 2023 Lilly returned to the UNCG Dance faculty after twelve years as the school director. The recipient of a 2008-09 Fulbright Lecturer Award, Lilly has choreographed and taught as a guest artist and teacher on college campuses in the United States and abroad, most recently in China, India, Italy and Sri Lanka. Lilly also serves as the Chair of the National Association of Schools of Dance Commission on Accreditation, and as an America College Dance Association Board Member for the Mid-Atlantic South region.
