Amy has been the Costume Studio Supervisor at UNCG since 2010. Amy has been involved in Theatre and “dressing up” since she was a child. Even though very involved in theatre in middle school and high school in California, she began at UNC-Charlotte as a Biology (medical technology) major. It was not long before she was pulled back into the Theatre. She found her real theatrical passion in Costumes. Sewing and making clothes came naturally. In 1999, Amy achieved her BA in Theatre from UNC- Charlotte and went on to continue her studies where they really know how to make costumes. She attended Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, England and completed their intensive wardrobe curriculum earning the school’s Jean Healey Award . While she was in England, she worked with the Bristol Opera, costume designed a stage combat showcase performed in the Globe Theatre in London and costumed a pilot television episode for the BBC titled, “Bridgeman”. After failing to gain a British work permit, Amy returned to California and freelanced until she landed a Job in New Jersey as the Costume Shop Assistant for George Street Playhouse. There she learned the ins and outs of fabric shopping in NYC, worked with renowned Broadway talent, such as Theoni Aldredge, Chita Rivera, and Arthur Laurents.
After a couple years in NY/NJ Amy was offered the position as the Costume Shop Manager at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. Children’s Theatre of Charlotte had just broken ground on its new home ImaginOn and Amy was very excited to assist the theatre in this big move from the little theatre on Morehead to the large, multiple theatres in ImaginOn. Amy continued to collaborate with many local theatres in Charlotte: CPCC Summer Theatre, Epic Arts, Barebones Theatre Group, The Farm Theatre, Theatre Charlotte, Actors Theatre, Donna Scott Productions, Machine Theatre, Charlotte Rep, NC Dance Theatre, as well as making costumes for commercials, film and special events. After 7 year at Children’s Theatre it was time to Amy to move on. And that is how she got here to UNCG.
Amy is happy to be in Greensboro with her husband (Jeremy) and two munchkins (Brock and Katrina) living on our farm of chickens and other various animals.
