Our faculty members are active performers and skilled pedagogues who demonstrate expertise in multiple specialties including performing in solo, large ensemble, and chamber ensembles alike. Opportunities for individual student performance include weekly studio repertoire classes, joint repertoire classes, studio recitals, and solo recitals. Our students regularly attend and compete at the National Trumpet Competition, the Southeast Horn Workshop, the Southeast Tuba Euphonium Conference, and the Eastern Trombone Workshop. Additionally, our students attend, compete, and perform at the International Conferences of the ITA, IHS, ITG, and ITEA. Our large ensembles (orchestra and three bands) are quite active, as are our studio ensembles (Trumpet Ensemble, Horn Ensemble, Trombone Ensemble and the TubaBand-our tuba and euphonium ensemble).

Graduate assistantships are available to MM and DMA students who qualify. The Graduate School also offers competitive fellowships to applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic skills and scholarships.

Undergraduate scholarships are awarded to a number of our promising BM and BA students.

Many of our undergraduates are awarded scholarships, fellowships and assistantships for further study at other outstanding graduate schools, and others have secured music-teaching positions in schools throughout North Carolina and in other areas of the country. Recent graduate and undergraduate alumni have appeared as solo artists across the United States, and many serve on the faculties at colleges and universities throughout the country.
