Dr. Ana Paula Höfling, Assistant Professor in the School of Dance, just published an essay on the history of the Brazilian combat game known as capoeira, “Capoeiras of Bahia.”  The essay is part of the catalogue for the current exhibit at the Fowler Museum in Los Angeles titled “Axe Bahia: the Power of Art in an Afro-Brazilian Metropolis,” published by the University of Washington Press. The exhibit is part of the Pacific Standard Time initiative and is supported in part by the Getty Foundation; it runs from September 24th, 2017 through April 15th, 2018. She has also contributed a book review essay to the Latin American Research Review (v. 53), “Dancing Latinidad: Spinning a World of Salsa Scholarship”, forthcoming in 2018.
